2007 with 113k miles...need guidance

    Bisco recently said...

    a good battery would never go to zero, never mind below

    I nearly sprayed my drink on my computer again, lol.....I guess it all depends on how you interpret the OP statement in post 13..somehow, with the recent artic blast, I figured the OP was referencing the weather, but,,,,Bisco's is a lot funnier :D

    This morning it was below zero and I see this again with the VSC and the circle with !.

    Thank you this is what I needed to know, because I feel very backed into a corner and I definitely do not operate well under this kind of pressure. Mechanic said everything else in the car looked good but I'm probably looking at replacing exhaust in the next two years. Local dealer is quoting me 4k for "new" battery and installation. I told her that sounds high, and asked if there is a warranty on the part, at first she said no and then came back and said 1 year warranty on the part. To me, if it's an OEM part it should have the same warranty as in a new car. Is this BS? I'm planning to call a couple other dealers tomorrow. I wouldn't mind buying the part elsewhere but I don't know of anyone in the area that will install it. 4k I can swallow if it's warranted for 2 years, but 1 year I'm not so sure.

    Yes I did mean the temp. Another cold blast coming in the next couple days. I'm wondering if these codes would have come up if it wasn't extremely cold.

    Warranty on a brand new battery is moot. 1 year, 2 years, 4 years, doesn't matter. It's really just to protect against infant mortality which are usually caught at the factory but if one slips out, then you're covered.

    Your dealership, genuine Toyota dealership that pays franchise fees to Toyota Motor Corporation, should give you a 3 year unlimited mile warranty on any genuine brand new battery you have them source from TMC and then install. Meaning the entire transaction for parts is within the dealership. If you buy a battery "over-the-counter" either at that dealership, elsewhere, online, or whatever expect to get between zero and 1 year unlimited mile warranty plus pay the core charge upfront.

    $4k is high. The dealership should be able to get the part for $1.6k to $1.8k (dealership wholesale rate). Add in 4-6 hours of shop labour and you have a $2400-$2800 install price at a dealership for today, out the door with a genuine Toyota pack.

    I figured there aren't enough hybrids in the area for there to be an independent hybrid shops but there could be some that have experience working on hybrids. I decided to look and found a shop in Endicott, NY called Precision Automotive Service that says they do Prius battery replacement. You could check with them whether they would install one of 2K1Toaster's kits. Of course, you could ask around at local indy shops. Spending about $2000 ($1600 + installation) would be much more reasonable than $4000 on a 12 Y.O. Vehicle.

    Thanks I'll check them out, Endicott is within reason.

    VSC light is back on as is brake system light. It's below zero degrees here again. Worried these lights are other things wrong...

    hybrid cars inc in stoughton ma repaced my battery with a refurb for 700 has a 6 month warranty he said his batterys last 80k miles or so

    Core charge means they bill you for the rebuildable part of your battery; then return that money when the old part is returned. Might take a week or two but you should get that money back.

    So figure 2,204, plus tax. If that 1774 is for a genuine Toyota pack that’s a very good price. You can figure a Toyota pack will last almost as long as the old one.

    I hope I can convince Precision Auto of that....

    Another out of Town Toyota Dealer gives me rough estimate of $4500 but says the warranty on the battery is standard 3 years unlimited miles. Not what I was told by local Toyota. Ugh this shouldn't be this hard.
