No problem with driving and handling, I always run higher tire pressure, think I have all set at 44 lb, max pressure is 51 lb
I have almost 1500 mile on new tires now and they seem to be getting better mpg. The cold weather may have been reason for longer break in. I have no idea. The alignment was rechecked and all was ok. Its showing 58 mpg with 450 mile on tank of gas, so that is probably around 55 mpg actual.
Gary, I put on a set on last year and they are the exact same tread and DOT markings as yours. The MPG from day one was as good as the original Toyo tires and after a few thousand miles got a bit better. They've got about 15k on them now and all is good. I keep them inflated to 3 PSI over the factory pressure. 57 to 58 is about where my winter MPG falls also.
I have these tyres too. I bought them in summer 2015 I believe. They’re also 51psi. In summer, I tend to run with about 39 - 40psi front and 37 - 38psi rear. I drop it lower in winter to increase grip for potentially icy conditions. Had a small mpg hit on the first tank or two while running them in, then the mpg stabilised quite nicely. They’re great tyres by the way. Summer, I was getting about 64mpg (UK) max on my 2008 Prius. Winter average is about 58mpg for regular commuting, but I have 54.6mpg right now, due to short journeys in -2c to +3c temperatures with extra heat being employed for passengers (running daughter back and forth to the tube station). I’m also off work for 2 weeks, so that MPG ain’t rising anytime soon. I think your tyres are okay. Your massive drop in mpg will be mostly the cold and your new tyres initial reaction to your local COLD road surfaces. iPhone ? Pro
I log all my daily data, and after 2,000 miles they are still dogs when it comes to rolling resistance. A little quieter than the OEM Dunlops, good snow traction, terrible dry traction that improved a little after break-in. Wet traction is mediocre at best. My Ecopia 422+'s were better in every way except, perhaps, noise. No, the only think they changed was total toe to account for a tiny misalignment of the steering wheel after it had to be replaced. None of the other parameters were changed at all.
Total toe will definitely affect mileage. Toe-in and toe out is how much the tires are angled in or out to each other. If you increase the tow in too much you will definitely see a decrease in gas mileage because you are scrubbing the tires as they move along. You want to have a little bit of toe in it keeps the car from being excessively twitchy at higher speeds. Just something to look at possibly. They may have a before-and-after chart did they give you. Yeah...I can't believe I used the wrong term. What was adjusted was the toe of both wheels - in the same direction - to alter the center location of the steering wheel. Total toe, caster and camber of each wheel were not adjusted.
Ahhh.. ok. That should not effect it. However there is no Central toe adjusting. So they would need to adjust each side to get the wheel straight. So they may have inadvertently adjusted total toe in the process. As opposed to solid axle Jeeps.. there is a separate adjustment to adjust the steering wheel angle relative to the entire front end.
