Double din kits are certified for the 2018 Prius with 7" screen audio, but aren't officially certified for the Prime Plus with same center dash and 7" screen system. Anyone know why the Prime Plus wouldn't take a double din kit? I really want an Android Auto system with Google Maps.
will the mfd continue to work? it may, just not sure how closely they're integrated (since you have different settings (some from the mfd, some from the larger screen).
I heard back from American International who makes the double din kit Crutchfield sells. Even though Crutchfield doesn't list the Prius Prime Plus with 7" display as supported on their site, AI confirmed what I thought which is the Prius Prime Plus is basically the same dash and is supported. I hate the idea of getting a new car with plans to immediately swap out the radio, but... Entune.
if you swap out the radio you'll lose the ability to set various features in the car. I'm not sure if they're truly in NVRAM or not, but if you ever kill the battery (or change it, etc.) you may well reset all the settings to default so i'd make sure I can live with them (e.g. unlock all doors, auto-headlight settings, etc.) before you swap out the only way to reset them. I rebooted the head-unit (albeit in an advanced) and the mfd seemed to keep working so you should be good on that part I would hope, although I assume you'll lose functionality (e.g. navigation display, etc.). I didn't try switching to that subscreen though with the headunit rebooting so I don't know what it will show. I wonder if anyone else has successfully swapped out their headunit.
Would love to know how this goes, kinda hate the head unit in my base prime, would love to be able to drop a CarPlay unit in there.
Do you have a part number for the kit they sell? I'm just about sick of this waste of space entune radio.
