I just noticed today that the speedometer gives a readout of your speed when in reverse. I think this is the first car I've ever had that did this. Most of my old cars were alalog, and the needle just stayed on -0- when I was in reverse.... but I noticed today that I was getting a speed readout when I was backing up at the grocery store. No real big deal, just another "new" think I noticed about our cars today. It still surprises me

I do LOTS of reverse driving during Boyscout popcorn selling season. I will have my son tell me how fast I am going while I watch where I am going for those concerned about safety
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Ichabod @ Aug 21 2006, 07:15 PM) </div> I rely totally on the backup camera when reversing, so I NEVER look backward. LoL J/K But I'm definately gonna check that out next time when I'm super sure it's completely clear behind me.
All the cars I have had with a digital speedometer registered while backing up. You notice it when you swing your head around to look both ways. Never gone over -10MPH, though!
But did you know you get negative gas mileage indications while going backward. If you back up far enough you may see minus numbers on the display. Try it and see.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Ichabod @ Aug 21 2006, 08:15 PM) </div> Why look forward or backwards???? I just set the GPS on maximum detail and drive by watching where it says I am - there is no need to look outside!
It works that way because speed is derived from the front ABS wheel speed sensors, which simply send pulses with no sense of direction. . _H*
Yeah, that is cool. And, oddly, it does it on the HyCam as well, even though that is not a digital display...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rangerdavid @ Aug 21 2006, 07:08 PM) </div> I noticed this months ago but was surprised that it is a positive number. I think it should be negative, with a minus sign in front. OK- you shouldn't look- but it would impress your passenger who can easily see the speedo.
