[attachmentid=4571]Hey Friends, My apologies for all the prius fans.....I hurt my Prius today. I dont know what went worng. I pushed my car into park and went to lock my office doors. The Ingnition was on though. I dont know how it went into neutral and glided to hit a wall in front of it to give a big dent onto my front bumper.....I did not even put parking brake which i usually do.....The car glided around 4 feet before it hit the wall .....I have attached the picture.... Now i need help from u guys .....any experts there ......what should be my fix.....and how would it cost me?? I have a 500 deductuble insurance ....is it wise to use it and change the whole bumper ..... Please help me guys..My red Beauty is just 2 months old
Two months old- I would have cried. You definitely have to fix your baby. Whatever it takes. I have done some dumb things since I have had Lola but I haven't marked her up. Welcome to Priuschat.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(AAWADKE @ Aug 21 2006, 05:44 PM) </div> Do yourself an insurance expense favor: get an estimate before turning it in to your insurance company. This 'incident' will be charged to your record with the insurance, and you will end up paying out mor than the $500 deductible. My small incident cost only $900 to repair, but when I reported it, to pay my $500 deductible, my insurance rates went up by $300/year for 3 years. When you get the estimate, do not tell them that you have insurance at first; sometimes the repair guys will cut some slack if they don't have to wait for the insurance check.
This is why the parking brake should always be used. This is also why a running car should never be left unattended. You were lucky that no one got hurt.

Update..... Now my question is I am pretty sure i had pressed the park button!!.... Now when the car was against the wall it was in neutral....Now is it possible for the car to go into neutral when park is pressed??...........Cos i can't leave the car which is in drive ....cos as soon as i release brakes it will move and i will notice it.... so my thinking is car never went to park .....but went to neutral.....I dont know guys ....In this case should i be notifying to the Toyota....??? Probably i am too upset but this is what happend!!
Well, this is what being a grown up is all about. You do the dumb and then you pay for it. If you don't pay to have it fixed, you will have to deal with all your friends and coworkers razzing you. Your choice. I still feel really bad for your baby.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(AAWADKE @ Aug 21 2006, 08:31 PM) </div> Doesn't look like it. Please, don't ask for a TSB link.
Sorry, man. It's a bummer. The simplest explanation is almost certainly the right one: you did not put it into Park. Stabbing at the button does not always engage it.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(wstander @ Aug 21 2006, 08:56 PM) </div> I completely agree! The same thing happened to me. Pay for it yourself if it is not too much for you.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(richard schumacher @ Aug 21 2006, 09:13 PM) </div> Please!!!!! Let's not be so judgemental. The OP needs help.
that's going to have to be replaced, unfortunately. there are a couple of crinkles in critical areas that aren't going to come out. good news though, looks like you didn't hit it hard enough to damage the coolant storage tank. good luck.
Can someone give me a rough estimate of how much would that cost ??? It will be only tommorow morning that i will be able to make it to a body shop.........If a get some figure i may try to sleep tonight.... <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(galaxee @ Aug 21 2006, 08:49 PM) </div> I was in neutral when it was against wall.......it just travelled 4 feet from where i parked... and the slope was very very gradual.......it wouldn't have been more than 1 mph........how much would replacing that part cost??? Should i take it to the dealer first or to body shop ???? I Know few body shops here but dont know if anyone is good or has worked on a prius before........Does anyone know someone in Oklahoma city area or Norman??
my car was totaled for what most here would consider only moderate damage. it will cost a lot, but i would never report this to my insurance co. keep us posted on the repair. im guessing a couple grand.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(AAWADKE @ Aug 21 2006, 07:04 PM) </div> Ouch!! I would have cried too...that looks like it hurts!! It sounds like when you pressed Park, it didn't fully engage into park and instead went into neutral...and from there travelled the 4 or so feet to an unfortunate meeting with the wall. I would definitely check with a dealer, probably the one you purchased the car from (if you had a good experience with them of course) or a nearby dealer if you had a bad purchasing experience...and see who they would recommend for Prius body work if you don't already have any recommendations for a body shop that could give you an estimate on repair. You could even randomly stop in at a few body shops and get estimates; believe me I've had my fair share of accidents (thankfully the last one was a long time ago) and it usually takes a quick 5-minutes to get a good idea of what the cost to repair would be at a body shop place. Be thankful no one was hurt, and that your car is still driveable!! And good luck!
easy answer. Take it to your Authorized Toyota Dealer for repair. The repair should include a NEW lower front bumper assembly, dont try to bondo/fill and paint. just order a new piece and Toyota can paint in in factory orginal color and youll get a perfect match because the paint on the rest of your car hasnt had time to fade yet. It will be fine if you take my advice and dont chep out on it.
Sorry for your difficulty. I feel your pain and just know the same kind of thing could happen to me. At least I'll be a lot more observant and make sure the "P" is shown as being active on the display from now on. Maybe this will help, though. I have State Farm insurance on two cars and some rental properties. My local, small town agent is a guy I think I can trust, so when I caused about $900 damage on a $1,500 deductible policy, I asked his advice. He told me that, since I had not had a claim for many years that filing the claim wouldn't hurt my record or cause my rates to increase unless I had another claim yet that year. So I took the chance and had them pay the $1,000 claim. So, I guess my advice would be to get your agent's advice on how to handle it before assuming anything. Cheers.
