Condition The involved vehicles are equipped with Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS). Due to improper software programming in the ICS system, the ICS system may improperly activate when an involved vehicle enters certain types of carwash facilities and is placed into neutral. If the ICS system activates, the ICS system will exhibit warnings and the system may apply the brakes. Remedy Any authorized Toyota dealer will reprogram the ICS Electronic Control Unit software FREE OF CHARGE. Covered Vehicles There are approximately 127,100 vehicles covered by this Special Service Campaign. Approximately 200 vehicles involved in this Special Service Campaign were distributed to Puerto Rico. Owner Letter Mailing Date Toyota will begin to notify owners in late November 2018 Mine does not apply the brakes in the car wash we use.
My VIN shows up as one needing the fix. I've never had the car wash issue as it's very simple to turn off the ICS and back on. No biggie.
Anyone received the letter yet and/or had the remedy performed? Mailing was to go out in late November.
FYI, I have not been notified yet, but I had the J0R - Special Service Campaign done yesterday while getting my 20K oil change and tire rotation plus whatever else they can dream of to throw at you service. No chance to test it yet and with temps in the 20's plus an in-bound wet winter storm, it may be a while.
I printed out the info and took it with me today when I went in for my 18 month service. I asked the service person if they had done any of these yet and he replied that they had for Camrys. Said it was a pretty simple. Here is what paperwork says they did: "Unplugged cooling fan, prepared vehicle, connected 12V power supply, Verified Techstream setup. recorded customized setting for ECU, pressurized the hydrobooster, updated advanced parking guidance/ICS/Intuitive ECU, performed health check and printed results/attached to repair order, restored customized settings, connected cooling fan, checked intelligent sonar, removed power supply, and verified all OK at this time per Toyota specification." Sounds kind of complicated to me.
I like your tech's write up better. Mine just said.....Confirmed open recall J0R due to faulty sonar software. Remedy, performed recall job and updated the sonar software, 0.6 hrs.
Mail is slow. Just received the notice in today's mail - January 19, 2019. Need to schedule my Prime's 18-month periodic maintenance this week anyway, so the timing is convenient.
I’m in no rush I already turned off the ICS sensors when in neutral using Carista. I did get the recall notice a few days ago.
Yeah, what could go wrong? I think I will continue to wash mine by hand or regular (Do It Yourself) carwash.
