Your changing out a brake component and your putting in engine coolant?

 

The Anti- lock Braking System has Dot3 brake fluid present.

Coolant stays in the engine or inverter .

 

It may not be uncommon to move the inverter out of the way for better access to the ABS actuator, hence a need for some coolant to refill the inverter loop after the job.

I would recommend sticking with the Toyota SLLC.

 

Toyota coolant works very well, but there are options. I also like Peak Global Lifetime. Available at Walgreens for $13.99 a gallon pre-diluted last time I bought some.

 

Simple and safe is to use Toyota fluids, either their coolant or brake fluid.

 

There's also Zerex Asian, typically around $12/gallon at Walmart.

 

You can buy through Amazon or EBay too, but dealerships are reasonably competitive in price, and close at hand.

 

Make sure you take home whatever he does not use. You might need it at a later date and it doesn’t go bad.

 

The extra coolant, it never goes bad.

 

Mobil will warrant their oil if used within 5 years of purchase. I guess this is because they will modify/enhance their formula in this time frame.

 

Speaking of things "going bad", I read in one Toyota document, to always use fresh/unopened bottle Toyota ATF WS (the transaxle fluid). They claim it goes off, attracts water IIRC.

Brake fluid is similar: I tend to use what I need, keep any left over for just a few days while monitoring level, then recycle it. Dealership will take it I believe? Last time I was recyling it Mr. Lube (who takes used motor oil) turned me down; I managed to leave it with their neighouring business that does do brake work.

 

If oil does it’s more years than you will be driving. Brake fluid on the other hand attracts moisture if you don’t keep the bottle tightly sealed. Always seal the bottle right after you are done using it. Sealed it will last for many years, you would wind up throwing it out because the bottle looks old before it actually goes bad.
