Brake actuator "warranty extension" from Toyota

Called this week myself as I have to pay out of pocket now. 12/18/2018 $2600 from Pappas Toyota in Missouri. Includes coolant flush and brake flush.

 

You could have been low on coolant or you inverter pump going bad.

What dealership quoted you these prices? I am getting double the cost in my area.

 

1) Buy used on ebay or from junkyard (car-part.com).

2) Have craigslist or independent shop mechanic install.

3) Take to Toyota for bleeding brakes (maybe $120).

4) Problem solved for around $500.

 

You were able to just clear the codes for the ABS to start working again?

 

My daughter is in an 09 Prius which has had the rattling noise since she got it two years ago. We chalked it up to the regenerative brakes and weren't aware of this recall-not-a-recall. She is at 161,000 miles, no lights on, is our only option to have the job done out of pocket?

 

1) Recall-NOT-a-Recall, is CORRECT. TOYOTA was being generous by extending the original warranty, hence Warranty ENHANCEMENT. Toyota had NO legal requirement to extend the warranty.

2) You can call Toyota Customer Service and see if they will give you "Good Will" gesture, and offer you a discounted repair. People who get this often times are just past the warranty (date/miles), or have had A LOT of customer paid maintenance/repairs performed at a Toyota dealership. This will require you to pay for diagnosis at a Toyota dealer ($100+). If the dealer determines you have a bad brake actuator, AND Corporate Toyota gives you "GOOD WILL," the diagnosis fee would likely be applied to the balance you owe.

3) Look at PDF in Post #23. It lists the conditions usually required for the ENHANCED WARRANTY coverage to kick in.

4) IF the brake actuator is failing and Toyota does not give you any GOOD WILL, you can choose who to pay for this work (Toyota or non-Toyota).

 

Gen2 Prii make some noises, some of which are normal, but I am expecting warning lights/trouble codes when brake actuator issue is bad. Of course, if your car is still under warranty for some reason, might be good to have it checked by Toyota...never know when you might get lucky and they offer a deal for some reason. .

 

I believe it was called a “Warranty Enhancement”. They sent out a letter to the owner and there was this sticker the owner was supposed to it in the owners warranty and maintenance guide. Either way her car wouldn’t have qualified for the repair as the lights never went on.
