Miles on yer Gen 3? (& major work done?)

    I'm at 180k. (Had a HeadGasket done a couple months ago, runs awesome now. 4 new shocks/struts last year.)

    Getting 55mpg in the city.

    Hwy mpg depends on speed... at 70mph it's about 46mpg

    Mine is 2011 now at 182K+ miles, nothing has been replaced, same traction battery, still on the original brake pads (just lubed it recently during the tires rotation), I changed the 12V every 4 years regardless it fail or not, I also changed all 4 shocks and struts myself. I planned to drive it to 250k miles then I will either sell it or trade it for a last production of used Lexus CT200h F Sport/

    My best combined mpg is 45+, city driving?? 38-40 mpg?!

    I have 250,000 miles on my 2010. I have replaced the brake pads one time and recently ran over something large in the road and had to replace the front bumper. The water pump was just replaced last month. I tell coworkers who make fun of me for driving the Prius that my car is the most reliable car I have ever owned. I am amazed that the exhaust, radiator, Hybrid parts, battery and trans are all going strong. When I bought the car I lowered it with aftermarket springs and they are still in one piece as well. I expected to get about 200,000 miles and then thought I might have to replace the traction battery or something. So far so good. My plan is to drive the car to 300,000 miles and then buy the new corolla hybrid. I cannot stand the way the generation 4 model looks. I am trying to get over my disgust but as time goes on I am not warming up to it.

    Our 2010 Prius II with 195 k miles that we bought in August of 2009 is still going strong.

    A list of things done (I’m the preventative maintenance type as nothing failed to cause the replacement):
    • New shocks on all 4 wheels around 185 k miles
    • Egr circuit cleanse at 120 k and 175 k miles
    • New engine water pump at 175 k miles
    • Spark plugs at 120 and 175 k miles
    • Oil catch can install at 175 k miles
    • Front wheel bearings at 180 k miles
    • Prolong equipment purchased and harness installed on the hybrid battery at 149 k miles which keeps the hv battery running strong
    • Brake caliper pins lubed every 2 years or so and still on the original pads with a lot of meat left
    • Trans axle fluid drain and fill done 2 times
    • Does consume a quart of oil every 4-5 k miles, but i check the level weekly
    • The radio signal has started to fade, so i listen to Amazon music instead
    Preventative maintenance around the corner:
    • Inverter water pump
    • Fuel pump
    I occasionally get the itch to buy something else (Prime is the next one up) but this is one of the most reliable cars we have owned (just traded in a 98 4runner at 263k miles that was extremely reliable too and required very little over the 17 years we had it). Recently i accepted @bisco ’s challenge of 15 years of ownership, so by that point I’ll have about 330 k miles on our Prius :).

    Out here though the cars don’t rust away, so I’ve got a great shot(y).

    About 50K miles, (nearly 80K kms). Haven't even changed the engine/cabin air filters yet. Ditto for wiper blades. Did finally get new tires, will go on in the spring when the snow tires come off.

    Changing the engine oil and filter every 6 months, and these days that's around 4000 km (2500 miles?). Using bulk Toyota 0W20 and the Toyota filter.

    Changed the transaxle fluid more times than I care to admit.

    Done the EGR clean up about a year back, ditto for intake manifold. Installed a Moroso Oil Catch Can.

    Every so often I jack up either the rear or the front, take of the wheels and any plastic underpanels, clean up and apply coating on the suspension, bolts, whatever looks rust-prone. Most recently used boiled linseed oil as the coating, which seems to be holding up good.

    84,000 miles
    No major work required.

    Routine maintenance:
    OEM tires replaced at 39,000 miles with Michelin Energy Saver A/S (due to blowout in northern Yukon, not tread wear).
    Transaxle drain and fill at 47,000 miles.
    Oil changes with Toyota 0-20w at specified 10,000 mile intervals.
    Wiper blade changes every 18 months - 2 years.
    Air filter and cabin filter changed at 40k (and again now when not snowing),

    Shortly it will, as we are getting 4-7” tonight.
    Ok, your post about using linseed oil on rust-prone metal jogged my memories of how we coped with rust in the Chicago-area climate in which a LOT of salt was used on the roads. What we found worked best on the chipped-paint areas underneath our cars and motorcycles was a good coating of old wheel-bearing grease , which is thick, sticky, and filamentous. That grease did, however, attract and hold a great deal of dirt, sand, gravel, and sludge, which was very uneasthetic but seemed to combine to form a nice protective barrier over time. I have heard of using fish oil to coat metal and prevent rust, but being landlubbers we did not have that available..

    Well, it's based on Gen 3, so I'll toss my PiP in. Most of you are way ahead of me. I have a 2013 with 86,000 miles, 32,000 of which are mine over the past two years.

    So far:
    1. Recharged the air conditioner about 8 months ago.
    2. Did the traction battery fuse recall.
    3. Changed transaxle oil.
    4. Several oil changes.
    I was in the driveway today rotating the tires when the mailman showed up. He said that was the first time he'd ever seen a Prius being worked on. I laughed. It reminded me of a John Deere commercial several years ago where there's an old, old man in front of the camera and an old, old JD lawn tractor cutting grass in the background. He says, "How long does as Deere last?" :LOL:

    2013 bought used with 40K in 2015, now at 142K. No problems ever!

    However, have performed preventive maintenance service to the items below:
    - oil changed every 10K. Considering changing it every 5K.
    - Air and Cabin filter change annually.
    -Transaxle fluid changed at 50K and 120K
    - Major service performed at 120K. Engine component cleaning. PVC replaced. EGR System cleaned. Engine and Inverter coolant changed. Sparkplugs changed. OCC installed.
    - Should do brake service soon.
    - Bought used 17" Prius style wheels a year ago for Summer use.
    - Steel rims and snow tires for Winter use.
    - Just changed the low beam halogens with LEDs. Wow what a difference!
    - Summer MPG: 50
    - Winter MPG: 42

    I plan on running it to the ground. 300K?

    Nothing but regular maintanance, not even a new 12V battery.

    Cool - can we just replace the low beams with LED's as if they were halogens? I always thought one needed a line booster or some capacitor when you do that... i have 2010

    Thanks for y'all's feedback. For Transaxle Fluid, what's the interval? Everyone's saying they change it pretty often... I've had this car for about 25k miles and haven't had it done (though prev. owner maintained at the dealer). Will also ask my mechanic, they're great as they work on entire taxi fleets of Prius and the shop owner owns 4 or 5.

    Forgot to mention my hybrid battery was replaced by Toyota (warranty) (P0A80) at 112k miles -- So the current one only has 68k on it.

    I plan to change my own spark plugs soon (I have 1 mismatched plug as I was troubleshooting the Head Gasket issue in summer), though I'm a little scared to, being that I'm getting 55mpg currently, the best I've ever averaged.

    Original pads, wow. Yeah reminds me I need to lube the caliper pins, I think I hear them sticking. I also changed my 12V a couple months ago.

    Why wouldn't you get another Prius?

    Corolla hybrid, interesting. Yeah I hate the way the Prius looks now. Our generation is the classic look in my opinion... probably b/c it had the highest sales number.

    Yes I am surprised at how durable it is, with all the potholes and crappy pavement here in southern California, many other cars would've been knocked out of alignment by now. It's also surprisingly heavy, almost as heavy as my old Lexus ES

    Wow. Yeah my mech said the electric water pump is the only bad thing about this car. It fails long before you get a check engine light about it, and of course at that point the engine overheats and bye bye head gasket. That's what happened to mine. $1500 but will extend its life by 100,000 at least
