On my "new to me" 2010 prius I noticed in the hatch one of the two knobs that you turn to get the cover up is missing (and I found the broken pieces in the tray) - I know it's probably not a problem but I'm OCD like that and am wanting to have both knobs - the dealer says I have to buy the complete panel to get just the knob, and local pick-a-part doesn't have a Gen 3 prius in stock to go grab one - so anyone know where I can get just the knob? (circled in the pic I found on the net)
Let the dealership know about that screw up, you might get a free oil change or car wash. And they might get their parts department a bit more on the ball in future.
Not looking to beat anyone up at the dealer - After looking at the diagram I think the kid thought the complete knob assembly was the one that pointed to all the pieces (58416K) and that's actually the complete cover - looks like I've got to order the 4 individual parts to make it a complete knob separate - not a big deal as the parts seem to be cheap... I think I'll probably just order the pieces on-line and get them delivered.
I've taken ours apart once or twice, typically after a spill. Since it's the low point, any liquid tend to run right into the hollow. Maybe just me, but I always have some difficulty figuring out how it goes back together. Unlocked: Locked: Left locked detail: Right locked detail:
Might be a good idea to check with a different dealer. Just because it is shown on a parts list......and MIGHT have been available back around 2010.......doesn't necessarily mean that it is available NOW. P.S. If the piece parts ARE available, just replace the one that is actually broken and re-use the others. Assuming that you didn't throw them away already.
I only have what few busted up plastic pieces the PO left in the tray... You're more than welcome to buy me a new car just to replace $20 worth of plastic parts... Not sure that's a good justification for spending a bunch of money just because there is a missing piece of plastic...
LOL ROF Good luck getting the "$20 plastic part." Most likely you'll have to spend $200 or so to get the entire panel.
It'll be a trip to the "automotive recycling center" to grab one or just leave it if that's the case... it's not really doing any work as the lid stays down by gravity and the one other latch and there is the carpeted mat on top so it's not rattling or anything...
