They are negotiating privacy concerns with AA. Toyota is a conservative company that always errs on the side of caution.

Android auto requires very controversial data collection as part of the licensing process. They license to automakers for a very small one time fee, but they require them to provide android auto with access to things like speed and places you go and stop your car at and for how long and the like to improve their traffic and advertising. Toyota is against this and is negotiating a deal where they pay google a larger fee to license and have no data collection, the same way apple does it.

Android auto is mostly smart screen mirroring. All the logic is on the smart phone, which allready constantly calls home based on which privacy rules parts you clicked away. And average modern smart phone has more sensors and processing power than whole fleet of Toyotas.
So those are just stupid excuses which will cause Toyota to loose customers, especially younger generations.

I'm hoping to return to a Prius in the autumn after a couple of years in a Hilux (triplets!), but Android Auto is a deal breaker for me. The Toyota navigation is truly terrible compared to Google Maps, never mind other third party options. I travel all over Europe and a decent nav option is a must for me.

I'm not sure I believe that considering Toyota do offer Android Auto in some models already.

The title of this thread keeps bugging me. I'd say "What a waste of a dash". I loath these iPads in the dash, bah humbug.

I dont like the huge display for another reason.... it is really hard to navigate menus while driving where good old fashion buttons mean less time eyes are off the road.

The Tesla’s model 3 multifunction display is excellent. Really really excellent, as are the stereo speakers and sound system. I wish I could buy one (sigh). In the meantime, why can’t Toyota put something like this in prius their flagship car, instead of the clumsy out of date Entune infotainment display. Are we in the Stone Age?

    Hmm.

I'd seriously like to go back there, would love to be able to adjust critical controls, without having to take my eyes off the road.

The 2019 Prius does not have Entune 3.0 so no CarPlay.

Yea, that was a shocker to me. They went through the effort to put the big screen in the regular Prius but didn’t put a 3.0 unit in it. Mind boggling.

    Ditto.

I suspect the 11.6” screen hasn’t been ported to Entune 3.0 and given declining sales, they probably thought it wasn’t worth the effort. Those with the 6.1” or 7.0” units look like they could’ve been upgraded to 3.0 along with the other parts (like DCM) but Toyota didn’t want the lower units with Entune 3.0 and the higher end units with the older Entune 2.x units thus no trim level got the upgrade.

    Just my educated guess.
