I'd prefer a mildy caustic water-based solution to acetone though, any day of the week. Oxi does react with carbon, and slow but sure will bubble it clean. Unlike acetone, you can work in the laundry sink, without stinking up the house, maybe drifting off.

I do have a can of acetone kicking around. First thing I did when I got it was take the #$@*! plastic security ring (or whatever the heck it's called) off the actual steel cap: if anything it made it more spill-prone.

Think you can use water from the tap under pressure and save the emotional debate:p.

    Give it a shot and you’ll see(y).

Just reporting in...the car is running great after the initial startup from cleaning the intake, EGR cooler and valve. The startup consisted of tons of bucking and the engine dying at idle for 2 minutes.
I then just decided to drive it to work any excess moisture out...and the car has been fine the past 250 miles now.

The EGR cooler and valve cleaning took care of my bucking issue on startup for now!

How'd things work for you OP?

Knocking came back on mine after 15 months since the first time it happened, knocked about 2 seconds at work on cold soak today. Drove about an hour at 55 mph & was parked it in temps of mid 50s. 7 hours later, knocks from cold soak start up. Never turned engine off ever during ICE warm up under my ownership. Can't wait to put poor use of time to it (y)

Doesn't Toyota have a TSB for this issue? Last I read, they change the intake manifold, but that may be different now

I think the intake manifold revision changes the EGR, from:

One large passage that feeds into four narrow.

    To:

One large passage that feeds into two intermediate that (both) feed into two narrow.

Somewhat speculative, did see some pics though.

I've also read that it didn't make that much difference.

    UPDATE :
i used a snake oil called Rislone engine repair to see it works, it made some difference. Here is the situation now:
that vibration and shaking has reduced to half or even more, check engine only comes in flashing when i am taking off from cold start. once i exceed speed of 30mph there is no more shaking or vibration nor any check engine light, i drove about 35 miles 95% on freeway yesterday, check engine light came on when i started driving then no more check engine light, however if i let go of the gas pedal and repress it , it makes some vibration around similar rpm but as rpm increase vibration disipate. how can higher RPM cause engine to run fine ? What do you all think ?
