My sons friend sideswiped a truck and they totaled his 2010 Prius. I'm thinking about buying it and fixing it up for my daughter. I've repaired other cars in the past from head on collisions and they turned out well. Usually going to the junkyards to pick up parts. Been through a couple state inspections to get a salvage titles for the cars. I can paint so that's not a problem. How much can white paint cost... Heck I even had to repair my Prius after my son dove it into a ditch and through a gas line vent one day. I'm going to look at it later. I might get it for $1000 if not less. My daughter loves my Prius and If I can get one cheap..... First Impressions?
Almost all white Prii are Blizzard Pearl which is a special 3 coat paint option. You may find out how much white paint can cost... Genuine Toyota Touch Up Paint Kit Blizzard Pearl White 040 070 00C - Walmart.com
Jokes aside, you won't come up too far ahead on this car, even at $1000 The body work and parts will run you maybe $2000 DIY? Then you have the electrical issues that can arise from a car that's been sitting (looks like that car has sat for a while). If you need a new battery, that'll be $2000+. Assuming that will be all the expenses (which probably not all of it), you'll be at $5000. Which is really how much a 2010 will cost you nowadays..
Surprisingly she does like Priusi (Priuses?) Her current car is a Jeep Liberty that gets something like 14mpg on a good day. If the car isn't tweeked, I can fix it. I wouldn't get it if the door doesn't line up when closed. If it's just replacing the bumper faciahood and bolt on a new fender. I'm good. Looks like it will need a new windshield and headlight also.
It's only been sitting for 4 days now. Main Battery is probably not a problem. Maybe the 12 volt battery is dead. I'm going to go look at it and if it starts and I can drive it a little I'll give it serious thought. Heck, for a $1000, the nav package alone would be worth it as mine has died again.
"How much can white paint cost?" When I was shopping for my 2014 model, it was $400.00 more for white. Sure it can be repaired reasonably well enough. How much cost and labor will need to be figured before making the decision. Maybe a flood damaged donor car could be found?
There was no airbag deployment, right? Whatever price the insurance offers to sell it to you for, ask if they would accept half that amount. In a worst case, you could buy another and and keep this one for a parts car.
I couldn't tell from the front end that this car would have Navigation, so it must be a package 3. It's worth it for parts at $1000, the engine is worth more than that
I get the feeling the OP really wants to buy the Prius and embark on the Resurrection process. Personally, that looks like a significant amount of damage. I wouldn't touch it. Likely has frame damage, I would never feel confident in it's safety.
i can buff that out . . . . . Given enough time & money? Yeah, everything is repairable. but not everything repairable can be done so for a reasonable rate. .
From what I see in the photo, there is significant damage to the strut tower and frame structure. If you decide to purchase this car, I would only do it for parts. Even at that, you’ll probably have it in your garage for 10 year. Don’t bite off more than you can chew.
sounds like you have the know how and wherewithal. if your comfortable with tech stream and the service manual, go for it. the electronics will be the biggest issue. how many miles on her? what would it be worth pre accident, or post with salvage title?
On some other forum there's a guy saying : "Some kid just side swiped my mates truck with a Prius. Might get it for cheap, here are the pics" A lot could be learned from taking the hood and any front/damaged plastics off. It greets the eye like a 5lb hammer, but then when looked at, I see what you're thinking. Perhaps a lot is cosmetic. That test drive would, and may have given most answers. If it's got bigger issues then i'd agree it's worth it for parts only, a wobbly front could easily cause a 2nd accident. Safest option if you fix it - let your daughter have your 2011 and you drive this one?
Good points brought up here. This guy is still waiting to hear from his insurance company. I'll try to go see it this weekend. I know they are cheap parts but $140 dollars for a bumper cover and passenger side fender. Does this type of accident happen so often that they put these two parts together in one package? [edit]Hmmm...Looks like I can't post a link to the bumper cover and passenger fender package.....[edit]
Damn looks like my 2010 which was totalled out. Old lady 87 years old just pulled right out in front of me last October insurance gave me $ 9,000 so I brought another one View attachment 163265 Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.

Buy your daughter a none broken prius the hybrid parts alone are going to cost alot and its really not going to drive properly after being hit. Buy a prius with a dead battery and replace it. Much safer option for a young driver because she may get into an accident later and it might not be safe her if it get hit again. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
