2019 Prime not getting a larger battery?

    BTW, neither the Gen 2 refresh in 2006, not the Gen3 refresh in 2012 involved any extra battery capacity. (nor did the v refresh in 2015)

    I suspect you are waiting for Gen 5 (2024?) before the battery changes.

    How about Toyota coming out with a Prime "s" a technically new model.
    Kind of like iPhone refreshes,
    That would reset the clock on the January 1 rule.
    OK, a stupid idea but ...

    IF you followed the link, it's federal law. I thought it strange Toyota announced 2019 & 2020 models coming at the same time this spring.

    You guys realize that the Prime in Japan has a CHAdeMO port for fast charging right? I think it tops out at about 24 kwh or something, but still. The paltry 3.6 kwh charging is just because of cost.

    That port to the right of the J1772 inlet is where the CHAdeMO port is on the Japanese spec models.

    The downside of making the Prime a separate model from the Prius is that it has its own timeline and won’t necessarily be updated at the same time as the Prius.

    It’s starting to look like the 2019 MY will be a carryover. I had hope updates would come for 2019 but Entune 3.0 (and thus Apple CarPlay) and TSS-P 2.0 won’t be available on the 2019 Prius which may give some indication. Again, given that the Prius is the technologically advanced car in the Toyota lineup, it has the oldest tech (along with the 2019 Yaris) is laughable.

    Hi Folks,

    My thought has been that 8.8kWhr is close to a sweetspot
    given the power/weight, power/size of current LIon batteries.

    I would like to see the battery better integrated to the chassis. Perhaps, in a center-chassis tunnel, like the
    Chevy Volt.

    The loading area floor returned to normal height,
    and a tunnel would add chassis stiffness.
    (not saying TGNA is deficient in this regard)

    On a long decent, I measured an average power to the battery of 19.2kW for about 5 minutes for a 30% increase in the battery reported charge percentage in that time.

    19.2 kW is the max AC input for the SAE-J1772 spec. So, it makes sense for Toyota building to that tolerance.

    I called you out on the same thing about a week ago. After 2 years of complaining, let it go.

    We all hope there was a goal set for this model-year to internally reconfig the cell & stack arrangement to create a better fitting pack.

    Trading physical size for an affordable & robust pack made sense for rollout. Overcoming that obstacle since then should be reasonable, but perhaps not due to other efforts.

    Keep your fingers crossed that next week's Toyota activity in Detroit includes something for us...

    complaining is not lying. the hatch is smaller than my pip. my comments and jokes about its size seem to have a serious affect on a few prime koolaid drinkers.

    let people make their own decisions, and stop being toyota suck ups

    Exaggerating is the problem.

    The reduced storage is not as small as you imply.

    Our last trip out west was with the cover rolled out, completely concealing both of our luggage bags... the ones with an extending handle and wheels that I use for week-long plane trips to the East Coast.

    exaggerating is what is needed for newbies who don't take the time to thoroughly check things out before buying.
    every potential purchaser has the ability to look and compare. my use of humour and exaggeration seems to frighten you and lee jay for some unknown reason.
    i'm not sure why. i'm not the only member here who is unhappy about the hatch space, and i'm not the only one who has not purchased a prime because of it.
    i may be the only one harping on it, but calling me a liar is the exaggeration.

    if one day, toyota reduces or repackages the battery and enlarges the hatch, will you say it wan't important any they did it for some other reason?
