How long, on average does the battery last in a 2010 zPtius Gen 3 last and what is the typical cost of replacement? Thanks! Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Your experience may vary, I am at 219k on my 2010 with no issue. But there are those that have had a failure before 100k. And there are 1000 reman (used cell) batteries, as well as 2300 new Toyota batteries. The individual cells can be bought at 25-55 dollars, and there are 28 of them in the battery. I have been saving 55 dollars a paycheck to replacing mine. When I get to replacement cost in savings, I plan to buy one outright. I have a use for the cells in the battery in my car. Provided the Gen 2 that I have my eye on is still there.
Or buy a Prolong setup and it costs less. But that’s if we are talking about the HV Battery. 194 k miles on our 2010’s hv battery and is maintained by the Prolong equipment . Performs like new.
Gen1 (2001 to 2003) about 1/3 of the HV batteries have been replaced Gen2 (2004 to 2009) about 5% of the HV batteries have been replaced. Gen 3 (2010 to 2015) there have been some replacements, but not a percentage yet. The gen 2 HV battery was a major improvement over gen 1, gen 3 is also improved but less so. Expect to pay $1000 used, $2500 new in parts. There is a 12 volt battery as well, they last about 4 years, expect to pay over $150. The Fob battery seems to last 3 years, $2 Mileage does not seem to be an issue, but high temperature does. 'US' is way to vague to know about your temps or elevation losses. If you live at a high elevation, use B when going down long hills. If you live in high temps, try to keep your car interior cool.
MFD have been prompting me Low FOB Battery for an entire month after engine turns off. Going to see how long til FOB actually stop working from the first MFD warning. Last experiment I ended up hitting a deer, this one will be less dangerous.
I'd say 150-300,000 but I'm an incurable optimist. May not be nonsense but I would also like to see where that figure comes from. I do believe that there are a lot of Prius drivers on original batteries. They just don't come here to complain.
Sister's 2010 has 250k on the original hybrid battery. Used low mile engine at 190k due to oil consumption and head gasket. New engine has 90k on it now, and just found out yesterday that the head gasket is blown on it too! (It has a 2012 engine)
Could you tell me about the Prolong system you use? My car has 170,000 mi. and if battery replacement will be more than the car is worth, I may just purchase next year. Thanks! Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
http://www.hybridautomotive.com I have the intelligent Discharger and it works well. Pair it with the charger and you’ve got a great tool for dealing with the hv battery . Search some of the threads here and you’ll find many members who use this equipment . You can also try @jeff652 for more details.
