Are people purchasing the "platinum" 7-year extended warranty on purchase? It costs $1500+ here. I would do it, but I'm thinking if I sell/trade it before 7 years (which I might do), it won't add that cost to the car (even though it's transferrable)... I'm not sure at the moment if the cost is the same if you add it later...
I'll probably get it, but I'm waiting until the OEM 36K is about up. You can get it for $990 through PC (but don't tell your dealer).
I got my warranty through Priuschat when I was at about 35,800 miles. I was in the VIN range for the MFD failure, but it hadn't happened yet. I decided to get the warranty because of that and the fact that 2004 was the first year of a model redesign. If I were getting a 2006, I probably wouldn't have gotten the warranty at all. BTW I drive a lot, so I got a 6-year/100,000-mile warranty for $875 (but most people get 7/100,000 for $990).
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Etel Rose @ Aug 17 2006, 07:24 PM) </div> I just bought a Prius today - the salesman gave me a $250 coupon on an extended warranty and then the finance person gave me a $500 coupon. Then they tried to sell me a 3rd party extened warranty which I declined, say that I wanted a Toyota extended warranty. They had "to check" with the sales manager, but they sold me a 7-year Toyota Platinum extened warranty for $1100.

The dealer was recommended by people I know - service hours are 7AM - 3AM! I won't have to take off work to have my car serviced. Hope I never use the warranty - they'll refund it if I don't.
