suggestions on used prius shopping

i bought a prius to save the planet, not to save money

 

I bought mine because I’m an impulse buyer! I don’t think I’ve kept a car (daily driver) longer than 3 years in the last 20 years

I have a bad habit when it comes to new cars admittingly. But grew up in the dealership so... it enabled the addiction so to speak.

Next up is a Honda Civic si hatchback.

 

We bought ours to save our necks.

We couldn't find a better/safer-rated subcompact than the Prius c.

It just happened to be a hybrid. We're along for the ride. It's actually working well for us in the sense that our annual mileage/utilization is higher than predicted, and we shot high.

I drove it home May 10, 2018.

Rolled over 14k miles Dec 21, 2018.

 

Go for a 2015 even if you have to get a lower trim because it's newer.
It has both better pistons and better pistons rings so you'll almost never have to deal with oil burning issues even when you get up to hundreds of thousands of miles.

 

But checking the dipstick occasionally is not a bad practice .

And if a little oil burn is all you have to deal with, that ain’t so bad in my book.

 

I would buy the lowest mileage and latest model year I could afford. More miles, more wear.
Hopefully the HV battery is still under warranty.

 

A quote in my signature agrees with the "not to save money."

There's plenty of scientific data that manufacturing the HV battery is much more intoxicating/pollutant to mother nature than the fuel extract, refinery & etc. based on average life of a petrol vs. hybrid vehicle.

Became a prius owner because it gives me rights to passage to drive slow on left lane and snicker at gas guzzler owners at the pumps. Just kidding, single and willing to drive far for to upgrade career salary when given the chance. Just saving the planet by not having kids; imagine all the diapers, babywipes, plastic feeding bottles and etc. that will pile up. My end, just wasteful engine oil containers from OCs

I was actually by Mather field today and thought of you and @grid .

I bought mine to save money. We were commuting 20k miles a year in a V8 4Runner, which we LOVED, but I was making a salary-killing job change and we wanted to maximize our gas budget.

The beauty of the Prius is that when gas is expensive, it's cheap to fill. When gas is cheap, it's even cheaper to fill. Worst case scenario (winter, snow tires, cold) it gets 40mpg.

8 years and 150k trouble-free miles. That works.

 

That's my argument! Before the Prius, I drove a Toyota Camry 4 banger. Nice comfortable car, but was getting 31 MPG tops. However, my wife and I were putting on 35K a year. With that annual mileage, why not drive a Prius!

 

Yep, I think of it as gas-price insurance. No matter what happens in the world or what it does to gas prices, I care about a third as much as I did in my last pre-Prius vehicle.
