I'm new to modding the prius and have a Gen 3 plug-in. It is currently ALL STOCK. I want to change the wheels out for a 16x7" with the OE size diameter tire of 205/55/16 for fuel economy. And what would be the lowest offset of the same size wheels if I lowered the car and wanted to maintain the most tire friendly alignment? Wondering what is the lowest offset wheel that you can go with, without poking? I saw a set of used 16"x7" ET+33 that I'm interested in, but not sure if I should stick with something with a +40's offset (especially if I eventually lower it) I tried searching, but it seems most are going with 17's and 18's. Not too many are going with 16's.
Been bitten by the mod bug huh! Nice! You see most going with 17 or 18's because Toyota has an OEM option of a 17 inch wheel. The OEM 17 incher has a +50 but still looks sunken in to me. People going with 18's, well, it looks better lol. There is a pretty big wheel thread on here as well which may or may not help.. So from what I've seen, a conservative offset would be +38 all around. Or if you have a choice +40 in the front and +38 in the rear. +38 in the front will have a TINY bit of poke but will still look great. I am currently just running the stock 15's which are +45 with a 10mm spacer in the rear and 5mm spacer in the front. The front is pretty close to being in line with the front and the rear could probably go out a few more mm's to be aligned with the fender (I've been told 12mm is the sweet spot) but I am happy with it. Soon will be getting 18's tho. Hope this helps..
