Congratulations on getting your Prius Tspirit back on the road again. I have the leather version with IPA too!

If “The Spaceship” has been written off, I would have bought it back too, and had it repaired using a local Toyota Prius Guru (they’re rare as hen’s teeth!). I still cannot get over the way it was violated.....

What security protocols will you be implementing on your vehicle, to prevent a recurrence of this dastardly crime spree? Some of the solutions available here look like they’ll be very noisy rattling under the Prius which can be incredibly quiet.

I spotted a brilliant CAT Security solution called “CatStrap”.....but apparently it’s only available in the US. I’d buy that in a heartbeat....!!!

Maybe the thieves could just hold the CAT's hostage, return them to you for a ransom, say for half the price of the other options? But then I supposed you'd be aiding and abetting, lol.

You London guys need to band together and work for whatever political candidate is going to crack down on these thefts. Sounds like there are enough of you to be a politicians nightmare.

We can write to our MP's that will get back to the Police, fitting some kind of CAT protection as I have mentioned earlier would definitley help as there are always easier ones to get (Steal) also could we make this post a sticky so there is every chance Gen 2 readers will see it. I hope these scum-bags get caught and made example of, but I won't hold my breath

I'm still waiting for the insurance to make me an offer to retain my car. It's a right royal palavar. As to ongoing security measures I'm not sure. I'm toying with wiring the car to the mains when parked but I suspect that's not strictly legal

so my prius 2007 had the catalytic converter stole from Chigwell. This is supposed to be "above" average area which neighbours with wealthy areas.... This all happened within 40min window when I left the car to go inside and came out after 40mins to collect my child from school. Got in the car and turned it on and sounded like a lamborghini, I quickly turned around to see if there a real lamborghini behind me, little did I know my little prius was sound like one.
Called up Toyota and they quoted £1800+vat for the new part.
I called the police and expecting a call back from their "forensic" team.

What options do I have? Apart from Toyota? EuroCar parts are selling it for £400 which I am not sure of due to MPG that will give. I am on Third Party Fire and theft insurance so doubt this will cover it?

ironically, there was a bbq story the other day about a ny times article regarding london crime surge.

a poll was set up for first hand experience twitter response. most respondents made fun of the article with typical british humor, insinuating that london crime was nothing like new york.

    apparently, no prius drivers responded:cool:

Flogging a dead horse: get theft/vandalism insurance, whatever it's called over there? Once the insurers start bleeding I think you'd see action.

    BBQ? Did you mean BBC?

Believe it or not, I work in IT Support - and have neither a Twitter nor Facebook account. I’m no dinosaur, despite my age - I’m actually addicted to technology - but I kinda draw the line at unacceptable levels of social media crapping up my life.

I suspect a large number of Prius owners also couldn’t give a large rats behind about Twitter. Over here, it’s disturbingly misused, with some nutters tweeting about their bowel movements, and others telling you what type of muesli they had for breakfast.

Ergo, few if any Prius owners would have responded to the twitter poll.

    I could be wrong.....

Sorry to hear about your Prius 2007’s Catalytic Converter being harvested by these criminals.

When was this theft carried out? Today?!!

Sad to hear this gang are still enthusiastically helping themselves to Gen 2 Prii CATs unhindered.

Yup, you’ll have to buy a third party Prius compatible CAT - the Toyota one is very expensive indeed. I’m certain your level of insurance will sadly not cover it over here in the UK.

I have no idea how good some of those alternative replacement Prius CATs are - anyone who’s had one fitted, care to weigh in? I’m hoping an original Toyota part was put in my 2008 Prius when replaced by insurance. My MPG is down to 57.3mpg at the moment, but we’ve had frosty cold early morning snaps in London, and I’ve run my engine too many times to de-ice the windscreen before eventually driving off. Also, retrieving my Prius from it’s safe high security drive of a neighbour each morning is costing me more fuel.

The reason why the Prius 2003 - 2009 models are being targeted is because there seem to be dual inline CAT pods under each Prius.....not one, like in other vehicles. They’re getting 2 for the price of 1 with each theft!

Funny how the Police are still declining to warn the general public about these thefts - at least requests for footage and a warning to everyone to challenge (or film) anyone jacking up an old Prius to steal the CAT would go someways to arresting the situation. Not a word.

I wish I knew someone over there. I've worked with Daily Mail before, but it was in their USA show. And seriously, it's DM...

No clue what a central Londoner watches/reads the most for local news.

Keep parking on top of trash heaps and roadkill, make them stink for it.
