I have recently heard 1) 2019 is the last year for Prius C (say it ain't so!) and 2) Toyota is considering development of a hybrid in the Corolla line, maybe even has it in the works. The Corolla has been around forever, and given this seems maybe the loss pf the C will not be so bad. Any thoughts?

If the new Corolla hatchback has a ~100" wheelbase, then I'd say yeah it is a replacement. If not, then it is something new plus something lost from the lineup.
Seems like the Prius family is disappearing. You can sell whatever product you want to sell. I was always a little dubious about marketing various versions of "Prius". Guess I didn't care too much how Toyota wanted to do it. But with 3 versions of Prius and various trim levels within each version, coupled with passing generations? It get's confusing sometimes to have everyone on the same page. If Toyota decides to end the Prius c? I really hope they support a lower cost, entry level Hybrid, whether it be a Hybrid Corolla or otherwise. I wouldn't be adverse to taking a long look at a Corolla hatchback Hybrid.

You can pretty much get the gist of it, but that article at Toyotacarsmodels.com has to be the weirdest translation I have ever seen.
A vehicle to consider when the Prius C is gone and want to move out of the Toyota lineup (why would you?), and yes, I'll use the "H" word: Honda Insight. I read about the Insight and it's a great vehicle and competes hand to hand (and maybe beats) the Prius. Starts at $23k and maybe with rebates and a good trade in you can get it for as low as $15k...
Huh? It's two feet longer and has an extra 6" on the wheelbase. Nowhere near as city-friendly. Nothing against Honda, but that's a full class or two larger than the c.
As the C has been effectively unchanged since it's introduction, the best argument against buying a new C is the availability of used ones. The Yaris sedan is a Mazda, and therefore will never get a hybrid version. The French-built Yaris hatch is barely even sold in the US. Somebody show me a dealer that has more than 5 of 'em in stock. Small cars the size of a C are all but dead in the US.
Well the thread is corolla vs. c. So I think the Insight compares well to the upcoming Corolla Hybrid.
See my post #3 above. Unless the new Corolla has gone through a significant size reduction, it is not the new c. Instead, it is Toyota's latest retreat from the uncool and unprofitable subcompact market, and retrenchment in an intermediate sized model.
All you said is true, but if you read my comment again, I never said it's a direct competitor for the C. Given the short wheelbase of the C, I believe it doesn't actually have a direct competitor. All I said is if you're wanting to leave Toyota after they discontinue the C (meaning not buying the full size Prius or the new Corolla Hybrid), you could consider the Insight. In my opinion, the C stopped working in the US because us Americans usually prefer larger cars than any country in the world. Hence why most people go with the full size Prius or a full size hybrid Sedan/SUV. Cheers!
Even the regular Prius isn't selling all that great. Combined (All Prius variants) they barely sold 6,000 cars last month. Toyota Prius family US car sales figures
The 2019 Insight is defintely worth a look. No longer it's own platform, but now sharing one with the Civic, when you add the new hybrid tech Honda is using into the mix, it's pretty much an.entirely new car. A lot of new hybrid options out there to consider.
With GM discontinuing the Volt, if I were looking into cars today, I'd probably choose the Hyundai Ioniq, honestly. Closest in price and as good, if not better gas mileage.
Corolla is longer and wider car. In Europe we don't have Prius C, we have Yaris Hybrid in this segment, maybe Toyota will offer Yaris globally in the next generation, current generation is from 2011, the new one should come as 2020 model year, at the latest. Yaris is getting some reputation from WRC: Toyota Yaris WRC - About WRC - wrc.com But I doubt anyone in America is watching WRC
When gas is $5 then people will run back to the Prius line. For now it looks like it's going to not get that high for a while. I'm sure in Japan they will get a new small Hybrid or a new Aqua.
