should i change my 12 volt battery

    Now with a further search I've found Prius C battery size listed as S34B20R. Looks like O'Reilly's has the regular Prius battery.


    2012 Toyota Prius C SEDAN, 5-DOOR, TWO 1500CC 16-VALVE DOHC EFI, CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION Battery. Battery; s34b20r - 2880021181 | Toyota Parts Direct, London ON

    But I did find a C battery for $273 CAD. And they are in Canada!

    I wonder why the 2015 battery is different than the 2012. When I enter 2012 at O'Reilly's it comes up empty.

    Cause O'Reilly got it wrong. The S46B24R battery is for Prius. Not the Prius C.

    Something that might help: measure the dimensions of the case, the one you've got.

    Just got a quote from my local Toyota dealer parts department of $213.78 on the 12v for my 2012 C, so I went ahead and did the change, Labor was an additional $65.00. 84 month warranty, which they start prorating in the 4th year.

    Do you know if it was just a battery swap and there is no reprogramming of any computer?

    There was no mention of any reprogramming in our dicussion. Nor is there anything about it on the invoice. There was a $5.85 charge for "shop supplies", which I have no idea about, unless that's what they charge for the dab of grease they should have put on each post:)

    Swapping batteries without some sort of memory saver you will lose trip meter data, radio presets, and maybe window auto will to be relearned. Also, I've found our 2010 does a bit of odd rev-up after a disconnect. This is typically after I've worked on the brakes, when I intentionally disconnect. It's not the end of the world, but for just a battery swap, a memory saver is a good idea.

    In the past I've hooked up a low amperage (0.5 amp) trickle charger, and it's done the trick. Now I lay my jump pack in the driver's foot well, and run a special cable from the jump pack to the OBD port. It's for that purpose, has only the 12 volt pins. Has indicator light too, to confirm connection.

    If that's what Issy Car meant by reprogramming, then yes, they do that as routine when a battery is replaced.

    I would imagine Toyota uses something like this to keep your memory items powered up while doing a battery change. Any way you do it all you are doing is keeping power on the 12 V. system and keeps the ECM powered up. I have one that uses the power point and a 9 V. battery but I don't think it will work on the Prius because when not in the ready mode there is no power there. In the days when the power point was a cigarette lighter they were hot at all times.

    To the original poster, if you live near the GTA or the Golden Horseshoe you might be able to get it done cheaper at Fucillo Toyota on Grand Island, NY. They did it on my 2012 Prius C1 about a year ago and I think it was about 230-250 USD. I don’t know what exchange rate you can get, but if you combine it with some cross border shopping it might be worth your time. Just bring another car too so you can go shopping while the dealer works on the Prius c.

    I had a 2005 Prius and now a 2012V.a year ago in Ontario. we were all packed up and ready to head to Florida for the winter,
    Battery died as doors were open etc' for a long time loading car.
    Had to unload car crawl into rear hatch and pop the rear door to get at battery. Charge it up and on my way! long trip down ,no problem but once there it almost let me down. So I went to Rural King, bought a type 51 battery for $50.00 and a new cable for ground and a marine end for positive, Total about $60.00 Did the same for the 2005.
    type 51 is the very same size but had standard ends. Saw the battery today at Costco Canada for $100.00

    I've disconnected my battery to do other work on the car and had to reset clock etc, but didn't lose radio presets. If that is all that happens then I can live with that.
    I don't think my battery has been replaced since I bought it from the dealer so one day replacing the battery task will be me! I'm not paying those prices for a something I can do myself. I previously had a BMW and you had to take it to the dealer to reprogram so that the car CPU would recognize the new battery. Forced maintenance. Ugh.
