Prius Battery Replacement (GenII) Like you've never seen - NEW Cylindrical Cells

I mean my current Prius had NiMH and Toyota is still using it in recently introduced models like most of the Hybrid Camry trims. It is not yet obsolete.

That is a great deal.
Sucks that there isn't a standard for all dealerships.

 

Will they honor it though? There have occasionally been people that got a good quote until it was time to actually do the work.

 

You are talking about a few quick phone estimates made a year ago, right after Toyota lowered the price of the battery. Consumers can expect to get repair work done at the written quoted price, as I have quoted here. A quote like this is a contract and has a very specific legal meaning.

 

I installed a new battery from 2k1toaster and while the battery seems to be working OK, my car now seems a lot more sluggish off the line and my mileage is down into the 30's instead of high 40's. It's almost like the ICE is doing all of the work to get the car moving from a dead stop, but once I'm coasting along my mileage goes up. A couple of possible factors are that it has been about 20 degrees Fahrenheit in my area lately. Also I haven't taken it on any long drives, because I'm worried about it breaking down. I've tried searching for any previous posts but my circumstances are somewhat unique since few people who own a prius have gone with 2k1's battery. My question is besides the battery, is there anything else that could be causing these symptoms? Basically feels like the electric motors aren't doing much at the low speeds.

 

It could be a combination of things. Weather is colder. Since the car had the batteries disconnected, the system needs to re-learn its particular drivetrain characteristics. Both could cause a temporary drop in mileage.

 

Least a tank of gas through it to relearn all the curves for fuel and electric.

Yeah, it drove pretty rough for about 4 days while it was relearning everything. Then one morning it stopped running really poorly, now where I'm at it seems to run OK, but not great. This is after about two weeks of installation of the new battery. Its almost like it's not warming up for 10-15 minutes.

 

Have you tried contacting @2k1Toaster for advice?

 

The implementation of lithium ion batteries still has much to be desired according to the hype. Exploding batteries not what the public wants to hear about.

 

Toyota has been using Lithium Ion batteries with well designed charging circuits in the US plugin Prius and around the world in other models. I have not heard of anything close to a Prius battery explosion. I remember of hearing of a parked damaged Volt that caught fire though.

Wow, I thought the exploding lithium cell nonsense had died out a few yrs ago. I doubt if too many people would be using LiPo (lithium polymer) cells like the ones in model planes that start the exploding battery hysteria.
There are so many other chemical combinations bundled together in the "lithium battery" label that perform so much better than LiPo these days, it is only that LiPo cells are in run out mode and cheap that the cheap toy market using them.
They put LTO lithium cells in pace makers and other medical equipment, they are lithium batteries as well, do you really think they'd use them if there was a chance they'd explode?
