Last week I picked up my 2006 Barcelona red package #4 Prius. We just love the car and while were for the paper work from the dealer ship to arrive { " c of o "} were trying to decide what would be a cool vanity plate to show off our new hybrid. I went to the 'BMV' last week for my other car plates { we live in Indiana} and asked about a few that we thought of and the one from Dave, here from this site who's using "Dual Pwr" in Washington, but no luck, its taken. SO I thought I'd ask for some suggestions and see what we could come up with, So please,if you have something really cool and wouldn't mind sharing it here so I could try for it here in Indiana, or something your not using, but you think is pretty cool, We would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Norman. P.S. I had the windows tinted, nor sure what % it is,not really dark, but close, and it looks really great. The guy use to work at a shop that did it full time and now doesn't. Well he only charged me $125.00 and it makes it look super. Anybody in north west Indiana interested { or Chicago area} let me know, he makes house calls, as long as you have a garage...
I wanted to get plates that read "60 MPG", but I'm afraid that might invite key marks down the side of my car. Bryan
I've been trying to think up a good vanity plate too. ITSIPS and FKOPEC. That's the two I have come up with so far. The second one seems a bit over the edge and I won't use it. I like the first one and have already looked to see if it is available here and it is. One thing about Hawaii is that you can only have a 6 letter/number combo and that makes it hard to figure out a good vanity plate.
I thought there was a vanity plate thread on PriusChat. See if the search function is feeling generous and will find that thread for you.

Friends of mine have GRN NRG on their Classic Prius (it's both environmental and understandable to the dyslexic!!!). I just think it's pretty darn cute...
There's a similar thread on GreenHybrid, and there are two schools of thought: talk about your hybrid, or talk about you. A number of us agree that "06 BMW" or "MYSTANG" are pretty dumb. I actually saw "BMW 325I" on a (wait for it) BMW 325i. To me, pointing out that you're driving a hybrid is a nice idea in general, and even better when it's not immediately apparent, like the HCH. In a Prius, though, I consider that to be a "Mister Obvious" moment. Your call. Personally, I really liked the "LESFILN" one I saw over in that thread. It's just funny on more than one level...
State of Illinois just put an instant online vanity plate check on their website, so I was fooling around. Here are the ones I came up with: INBRID MO MPG HY THERE UWSTGAS SMUG (believe it or not, it's still available) NEVER C E SMUG LRT PRIUS NV
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(quagmire0 @ Aug 18 2006, 09:27 AM) </div> Ok, those three are BIG winners for me... And you can go to http://www.acme.com/licensemaker/ to see what they'll look like for your state!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(quagmire0 @ Aug 18 2006, 08:27 AM) </div> I guss I'm pretty slow, but i got to ask, whats "smug" or "smug lrt"
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Norman H. Renehan @ Aug 18 2006, 10:38 AM) </div> They are both references to an episode of South Park that lampooned the attitude that some hybrid owners and hollywood types have regarding saving the planet. In the episode, the people became so uppity about their Hybrids and how they were saving the planet, that it caused a severe SMUG(play on SMOG) problem and thus a SMUG ALERT was raised.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(quagmire0 @ Aug 18 2006, 08:42 AM) </div> I suppose 1TMYMPG (the only plate shown on that episode) is already taken. In CA we have symbols as well. One of my coworkers (who owns a Prius) has <heart>NHYBRD. Another one I like is 1LESSUV.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Norman H. Renehan @ Aug 18 2006, 12:23 AM) </div> When my new Prius arrives, I plan to get a specialty plate, rather than a vanity plate. They have lots of different kinds around the country. But, Washington state has some nice alternative tabs that have nature scenes; and the money for their sales benefits conservation (Dept of fish and wildlife) and parks projects. I think I'll pick the Orca design or the mountainscape!
Wow, we haven't had that style of plate since 2003, I think? But thanks to our compassionate conservatives here in Indiana, we're going to have the option of getting an "In God We Trust" plate next year as a free alternative to the regular plate. [attachmentid=4529] I'm hoping to buy a Prius soon, and have been wondering about vanity plates too. I'll have to try to find that other thread. How long did you have to wait at the BMV, Norman? For those of you out of state, our BMV installed a new computer system in July and it has been a *huge* debacle. I'm dreading going in when/if I get my Prius.
