My husband and I were driving our Prius last night when a warning light came on. He said that the same light (circle with a key through it) had come on in the past so I looked it up in the manual and found that it is the SKS warning. The manual, however, wasn't terribly clear as to what could be making it come on but I think the possibilities are that a radio or cellular signal was interfering with the SKS or something metal was in contact with the key. The light went off a few minutes later.

Has anybody else had this light come on? Am I correct about its meaning?

You could be correct, but another possibility is a low battery in the SKS unit, althought that is unlikely if it is not old, but still possible.

I have not personally had mine come on except when I get out to run back in the garage to get something.

I believe it basically means the car can't detect the key fob while the car is running. i've noticed it once or twice when i'll forget something in the house after backing out of the garage, and just leave the car on when i run in.

It could mean that there's interference of some sort like you described. given that you have an '06, i'd doubt the battery is wearing out yet.

I've had it happen a couple of times when my fob and cellphone were in the same pocket.

Remember there has to be a fob within three feet of the center console - if you started the car, then lobbed your gym bag into the trunk or something with the fob inside, it'll whine at you.

The key fob was in his pocket so I'm guessing that the distance between it and the console was okay but it was probably in contact with a metal key or maybe some coins.

Thanks for all of the replies!
