Hi folks, I just wanted to share my experience with an aftermarket Android stereo. In August 2015 I bought a 4.4 Android stereo/DVD/nav from Auto Pumpkin. Installation wasn't quite plug & play (especially for the rear camera) but it worked fine until a couple of weeks ago (except maybe for the FM radio reception which was inferior to the original system of the Prius since the beginning, even with an add-on signal amplifier). So... a couple of weeks ago, no more music got out of the speakers, from any possible source (radio, BT, CD/DVD, USB...) Occasionally, some music got out of the passenger side speakers, and sometimes from all the speakers, but it's been a week without any music now... Needless to say, I contacted Auto Pumpkin, they sent me a link to download and install a more recent version of the software, but it didn't solve the issue. After that, the only thing they could say was "it's a hardware problem, your car stereo is very old, there's nothing we can do". Three years is "very old" for them So, beware of low cost Chinese stuff! Seeya, Felice Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
X2 thanks for the heads up.... I know 3 years is not old for regular car equipment that we use... but unfortunately if you compare it to our android phones, 4.4 is on the older side. I wonder if you can root and upgrade like a phone?
