The dreaded C1256 and C1391. Actuator failing.

1 new actuator repair is $3000+ at the dealer
2. New battery is $2000 when needed

Then hopefully you'll be good without any major repairs for a few years

 

Buy a used brake actuator on eBay for $300 and have an independent who specializes in Toyota hybrids install it for $400.

Tires - go to Costco and spend $500 or less on a set of 4.

 

If buying used, best to get the latest part number and not buy one from a 2004 car that will soon fail

 

Tires & TPMS: ~$400-$500. Goto Costco NOW.

$70 off set of 4 tires AND $0.01/tire installation. TPMS gets installed at same time for free or nominal fee.
Call your local Costco to see their cost of TPMS and TPMS install, and if you can bring your own new TPMS.
TPMS on Amazon Denso ~$35, Dorman ~$34.

Interest car payments vs $1,500 in current maintenance. Your choice.

For future reference, the HV Battery will fail at some point in future. Cheapest I have found is $1599 (unconfirmed); $1699 (confirmed).
You will have to do some work and see if local dealers will price match and sell to you. Dealers will NOT ship the HV Battery.

Please post brake actuator info as you find it, I purchased a 2007 last week to find I’m needing an actuator replacement as well. It sounds like a pain to replace but I’m digging for info as I’ll do the job myself.

Have you found any confirmed part numbers for the updated actuator assembly? It seems# 44510-47050 comes up in searches.

FYI I’m throwing codes c1256 & c1391.

I see on the tag in the picture #44510-47051..... is that the “old” part number or the “new” part number? I thought that was the old Toyota part number?

I’m wondering if the new part comes with a different tag or part # so we can tell if an accumulator on a car has been replaced already.

What an expensive part to break. Probably bad packing, lack of protection inside the box.

 

I’m new to this site of vast information. I woke up one morning several weeks ago and did my habitual perusal of Craigslist. To my surprise, by the end of the day I was the unexpected owner of a 2005 Prius with 225k miles for very little money. Seller advised that she’d been told a new brake actuator was needed to solve the 3 amigo lights. I figured it would be a learning experience and took the plunge. It cleaned up nice and everything is squared away other than the actuator. I thought I would skip a used one and didn’t want to pay the $1200 for a new one. Dorman appears to offer a reman for around $700. Here’s my problem: every source I’ve contacted has the actuator back ordered, including Dorman itself. Does anyone here have any inside info as to why there don’t seem to be any Dormans available and/or if there are any other sources for reliable remans?
