Prius 2016 knocking sound between the engine and the inverter is driving me crazy. Could you help?? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Sorry for that mistake. My car has 49000 kilometers, 30000 miles. Shipped from the USA to my country, I guess it's prius 3 or touring 3 I can't tell the diffrance. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Under what conditions does it knock ? Engine running or engine off ? Car moving or stationary ? If moving: is it in EV mode or ICE ? is it on rough road or smooth ? Is there a passenger under the hood trying to get out
Does it sound like a suspension sound - does it make the noise when going over bumps, or while braking, acceleration? While turning the steering wheel?
The sound goes when the engine starts when the car is parked. When you step on the pedal, from EV mode to engine starts this sound appears. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Is it continuous while driving with the engine running - or only at the moment when the engine starts?
When the engine starts also when the engine turns off. Is it a bad fuel quality issue?? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
No not continuous. When the engine starts and just before going to EV mode. Clicking sound. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
There is always a slight sound when the engine starts. But it's so soft that, unless you're waiting for it, you won't notice it. Is this the sound it's always made, or something new which has just appeared? Basically the engine is stopped - then, like in any car, it starts. In a "normal" car, that's done by the starter motor whizzing the engine and the engine shudders into life. In PRIUS, the Hybrid Synergy Drive uses one of the Motor Generators to spin up the engine and it fires - much smoother than starting a "normal" car, but still, there's a slight shudder you can hear, rather than feel, as it starts. More noticeable when the engine is cold. I've never noticed any sound when it stops - but it probably does momentarily - my 65year old ears may miss it. If it's louder than very soft, it could be something wrong. How loud?
You think so? - in a car with only very kms. I've only had to replace engine mounts on cars over 10 years, 200,000 miles. Anything is possible, but my next suggestion is to check that nothing is loose.
The mountings shouldn't be worn as such on a new car, but I've seen new and nearly new cars with nuts or bolts missing or loose (admittedly not Toyotas).
I've checked them, engine and gear mounts are in excellent shape. Today was pretty cold weather the sound was very obvious till the engine was warm then its gone. I guess it's a fuel quality issue. Although I cleaned the NGR, injection and air intake unite. Still the sound is there. It's not really loud but it is eating my brain because I can't find the reason why!!!
