Low Rolling Resistance replacement tires: Current List

    Yeah, tread wear warranty is just a marketing gimmick. It is prorated and warranty will only apply to replacing tire with the same model tire at discount from the MSRP. In most cases, it is cheaper and better to buy new set of different tires.

    I've never had a tire go the distance they say they will. And have had several pro-rated.
    I always say something if I don't get near the amount it claims to get. I've gotten a 20-50% discount
    on new tires, and didn't have to get the same brand.
    I think almost no one says anything, or keeps tract of it and that's what the manufacturer knows.

    Well, I keep track of it and until now, with the jury still out, every set of tires I've ever bought has gone beyond the warranty period. That excludes OEM tires that came with the cars I've bought , the most notable exception was the Goodyear Eagle GT+4 that came on our 1988 Grand Prix that only went 18,000 miles. The Costco tech says these Michelins are going to make 60,000, but that's almost 18,000 more miles and I'm not a believer. The biggest problem is I intend to make a 4,000 mile trip to Gulf Shores followed by 5,000 to Georgia and then 9,000 to Alaska, but there's no way I'm driving to Alaska on those tires. In fact, chances are high that I'll bite the bullet and buy new tires before we take any of the 3 trips. Trouble is I don't know if I should risk trying another set of the Premier A/S, try the Defenders or try some other brand altogether. I'm also thinking of upgrading to a Prius Prime Advanced before the tax breaks expire, but I'm not sure that's a smart thing to do. Our 2014 Prius 4 runs great, still with zero rattles. Just started looking at the Prime though, so lots of research to do.

    Hello everyone! I am a long time lurker. I love this forum and the community that has been created. I drive a 2010 Prius IV. I love it. I am looking at replacing all four tires come tax season and I have read through the current thread but I wanted to ask if the list on the first poost is still accurate and up to date. I have recently moved from Colorado to Florida so I won't have to deal with snow anymore. Just rain and heat. If anyone on here lives in Florida please chime in with your current tires and your current experience living in Florida with the heat/humidity. Thanks!

    I would try Sams club Pirelli sales. Sometimes you can get $140 off for a set of 4. Put some on my 2011 and the MPG went up a little over the worn out OEMs. YMMV depending on the type of tire and PSI (42 to is the ultimate answer to everything in the universe). If you are gun shy just order the MIJ OEMs at Tire rack or get the Bridgestone Plus for your vehicle at Walmart.
    Lots of Michelin fans on the forum but I am no longer a member of that club (dues were too high) :LOL:.

    Yokohama has had good reports also.

    I am not up to date on tires, but in FL climate you can opt for max MPG tire without worrying about winter traction issues.

    I've got the Defender A/S, and the handling was like night and day compared to the OEM EP20s. I was so happy to get them on right before one of the rainiest winters on record.

    I'm going to get about 70K out of them before I replace them, not sure if I want to go back to a pure LRR tire again.

    Nope, the first post is not up-to-date. Check Tire Rack (you can filter for LRR tires, there are 30+ available in the right size).

    low rolling resistance tires make a HUGE difference in MPG
    I bought some recommended by a tire shop (not LLR, I think it was just old stock) and my MPG dropped by 4...
    normally I get 45. now Im at 40.7

    My last purchase was back in 2017. I got about 47k on my original tires, and they definitely needed changing.

    I got ecopia EP422 plus. Got several rebates at the time from Discount Tires, as well as Bridgestone, which paid for the hazard warranty (free rotation) and most of installation. Price was $348 before installation and tire hazard warranty.

    Which ones did you get? Walmart is $30 cheaper per tire compared to Discount Tire which is where I normally go for tires too. Even with their rebate it's still cheaper at Walmart.

    Just ordereed 4 Nokian WR G4's (supposedly made for hybrids and electrics) for $357.12 delivered at simply-tires.com. thats with a 5% discount, itll cost me $100 for installation.

    Yeah my last experience was way back with WRG2, I was using them as a snow tire. It could be they've improved, but the 2's, I could not wait to switch back to our all-seasons in spring, first Bridgestone Insignia EP200_02, and later Ecopia EP20. The latter are also designated LRR. The WRG2 seemed to impose a relentless drag, car (Civic Hybrid) wouldn't coast as easy, you could feel the difference.

    Again, this was 2 gens back, not sure now. All I know, is take LRR status with a grain of salt, read online reviews. In this regard it's hard to compare the Nokians, because they're not sold widely, not in the mix on TireRack, for example.
