Hey everyone! I've been enjoying my new Prius I got about 6 months ago! I bought some Husky Liners Floor Mat for it, for both the front and back. However, I've recently started noticing that there was "water" or "condensation" under them at times. It's usually all day now, and I only noticed it because my girlfriends sleeve kept getting wet when she put her jacket down. I checked the the whole floor of the front passengers side (under the seat) and it was really wet, I noticed the back floor mats were dripping on the front and they were wetting the whole thing. It's not even a little, its a lot. Basically, my question is, is it a problem with the car itself and condensation, or Is it a problem with the floor mats? What are some things I can do? I usually ALWAYS run the A/C and if not I have the windows open. Thanks in advanced!
How would I check if it's clogged? Would this cause water to come into all the mats in the car (front and back)?
It certainly isn't a problem with the mats themselves. But it seems to early to know if there is a problem with the car, vs some other form of water release in the car. For starters, remove the wet mats, sop or towel up all the water you can, and dry out the interior. That will help separate a one-time past release or spill that hasn't dried vs an ongoing source of water still coming in.
I'm certainly going to try this, this weekend. I'll also try to clear up the A/C drain tube too. Should I put back the mats, after it dries out? Or leave them out?
Once the floor is truly dry, you should be able to put the mats back. But why wait for the weekend to start the drying process? Expose the wet carpets, put some old towels on them today to start the process. Maybe even use the matts to press the towels down to sop up the water faster. Then swap out the wet towels for dry frequently, as soon as they get soaked. Then by the weekend you may already have most of the water out, making it easier to find the source then.
Hey! I went ahead and started to put towels under with the mats, and i told myself i'd do it right after washing my car (through the carwash) After the car wash i go to use the vacuums they have and i proceed. Where i told you water was at (under the passenger seat) i noticed water bubbling up. I touched it and smelled it, guess what? It smells exactly like what they use. So now, it all makes sense, i just got this monthly thing for car wash and it started when i first got it. I'm worried i may have ruined the car now, i'm trying to dry up everything, but i'm pretty sure it isn't supposed to be happening? What could be causing the car wash to pump water into the car? I mean i checked the door seals and none of them were leaking... I definitely won't be using the car wash anymore until i find out what's happening.
you must have a leak around the rain gutters or hatch. pull everything out of the car, from the front mats to the spare tire and 12v battery cover
I'll be doing that, and i believe so. I don't think there's any water leaking into by the windows, because i checked for any water around the windows and doors. I also pulled everything from the back and no water is in the back, only in the front and rear seats, i guess?
Subscribed! Interested for when you find the cause! Do you get an undercarriage wash? Are there plugs in the floor of the car?
The car wash vacuums can do a pretty good job of getting the carpets dry. After everything is dry, place some paper towels all over any place you are suspecting water intrusion as well as the areas you are finding water. Run thru the car wash again and try and determine where the paper towels start to get wet first. I have had the Huskey liners since my car was new without any problem so I think you are correct in guessing you have a leak somewhere.
Get a wet/dry vacuum on it, the more powerful the better. Then leave windows rolled down, use hair dryer (or heat gun, cautiously): get it dry as soon as possible.
I still don't know the cause. Everything is dry now and i put everything back now (the floor mats) however i still don't know what is causing it. Yes i got the undercarriage wash! I don't know if there are plugs? Are there in the floor?
