I have a limited time that i can charge at work due to the outlet location. If it takes 3 hours to get a full charge but I only have 2 hours to charge is it ok to just unplug while the charging light is still on? Should I only charge when I know I have enough time to get a complete charge.
I do this all the time - I was under the impression that it's perfectly all right. Looking forward to seeing what others might have to say.
Charge when you can and un-plug anytime. Enjoy! Maybe read this it might help. When should I charge the car? If you are in a colder climate (lows dipping below 40), time your charging so that it finishes as close as possible to your departure time, so that the battery is still warm when you leave and ICE doesn't need to come on. You can use the End time charging timer to accomplish this (consult page 86 in the manual for how to set that up, since it's a little complicated). Otherwise, just plug in whenever. It doesn't really matter. The manual does recommend depleting the EV portion of the battery (so that the car operates in HV mode) when storing the car for long periods. yes, the only thing is, make sure you are unplugging from the blue handle end, not the outlet end. that is, disconnect the cord from the car first and from the wall outlet second (if using the supplied 110 V charger).
On a related note, is there ever a reason to unplug the charging unit from the wall? I leave mine plugged in all the time, even when my PiP isn't charging.
I unplug mine...I charge at work Mon-Fri. It uses 1.4 watts when plugged in...so 5 days is 168 watt-hours...almost one mile of electricity (I average ~190 wh/mile) Mike
Picked up my Prime 2 weeks ago. Charged it (partially) for the first time yesterday. Pretty amazing - 57MPG Gonna TRY to charge it all the way tonight - see how it does on the way to work in the AM
