I find the dashboard configuration in front of the steering wheel to be kind of silly for a car made for city driving. For example, it would be a place to put your spare change but in my city a change dish in plain view of anyone walking by with nothing to cover the change is just asking for someone to break in and clean you out. I've not found anything else to do with that area. So I own a 3d printer and I'm currently prototyping some ideas for modding that area. My first thought was a covered or even lockable coin dish and a custom phone mount. I have had my prius since the day they were available but I am brand new to this forum and I'm wondering if any of you have ideas about what you'd like to see done in that area of the dashboard? If there was any interest I'd be willing to look in to creating custom mounts that fit right in this area of the car for people.
They make these for the Toyota Aqua in Japan. They look like a great idea and I would love for them to be here.
Maybe a flap of sorts to cover the wide dish, and the smaller one could be a phone cozy area... I never put stuff up there. I used to put my key up there but kept forgetting it in the car.
do you know where the aux and usb ports are? i would like to somehow get a cover for that area. its a good space but leaving your ipod and stuff there while you arent in the car is not safe.
I would be interested in a lift-up cover for the top dash cubbies; Simple cover with hinges that looks like it sort of belongs would suit me just fine, but I don't need anything fancy. I would keep notepad and a pencil, business cards, etc..., that sort of thing. (is that too old school?)
Hi BYllc, I'm on a mission to solve a minor issue I've had on Gen2 and now my Gen 3; the Tonneau cover without the Gen 4 grab handle. Can't get the Gen 4 plastic grip/grab handle separately from Toyota (UK) or Japan; complete Gen 4 Tonneau only etc. Is it possible you could 3D print the 2 halves (2 halves bolted to Tonneau)? I'll wait to hear. My hunch is I'll probably have to make it myself, crafted from ash wood. Regards CJL (UK)
Printing is fairly easy depending on the part. Measuring and drawing it are what takes time. Can you provide a CAD file, or draw it up in Sketch up?
