So i recently grabbed a 2002 Gen 1 Prius with 145k miles. Needed both the Hybrid Battery and new 12v....got a new Hybrid Battery professional installed, and i did the 12v. Car runs great as I drive 200 miles a day. However, i occasionally get the P3006 code (ONLY) while sitting in traffic. I can drive for 2hrs straight, and no codes or issues. Im able to clear the codes myself with my scanner tool..and keep rolling, but wonder of this has been discussed before.
Dean, it the new HV battery pack an oem Toyota replacement. You should be covered under warranty, the DTC is indicating that the battery modules are not balanced, that they have different states of charge that set a fault code. Take it back to the dealer that put it in. If it's a remanufactured, get in touch with the builder and make a warranty claim. I had this code on my 03 while discharging/charging to balance the battery. Took an extra two complete cycles to get the modules rebalanced.
Thank you @Brian in Tucson It was done by a shop that specializes in rebuilds....im working with them now to isolate the issue.
Had a new situation last night....started the car after sitting all day at work, main battery was at 1/2 charge...within a few minutes on the highway (65mpg), it went to FULL...ALL BARS. within in a few minutes, the red triangle and check engine light came on. Car seemed like it was revving high...almost racing. Pulled over and pulled codes....same P3006 code. Reset and was on my way....drove another 90 miles...no problems. No problems again this morning with another 100 mile drive.
