latest # of HOV stickers issued?

The Bay ARea dealers were maeesing me around, and gave me the 8-12 weeks with no guarantee speech. I know Robert Anderson at Findlay Toyota in Las Vegas. So I gave him a call. They had an assignment coming in 2 weeks or so. He called me back a week later to confirm color and option of what they were going to get vs what I wanted. Originally I wanted a white one, but could get the silver with option 6. I gave him deposit over the phone. A week later I flew down to Vegas (22 July) (one way tocket was $150), Robert picked me at up at the airport. Drove to the dealer, did the paperwork quickly ( I paid with a check from my bank). We had a late lunch and then I drove back (9 hours to the Bay Area). Averaged only 41 MPG, but I was making good time

The dealer then shipped me the required paperwork a week or so later. I went to the DMV the next day and registered the Prius, got my plates and started applying for the transponder. RObert wasvery good at chasing the paperwork through the dealer for me. The finance guy gave me the story that it can take up to 2 months to get the paperwork from the NV DMV!! It only took 7 days though.

You pay no sales tax in Nevada. But when you register in CA you pay sales tax atthe DMV plus all your typical DMV fees (license, etc). So it was pretty smooth adn quick. The DMV office here in Gilroy is very quick as there is not a lot of people. I spend 45 min total at the DMV, from walking in the door to walking out with papers and plates.

If you phone RObert tell him Andries send you, adn he should make it happen quickly for you. If they are out of PRii, it might be difficult.

 

Let me add my dates:

6/15 figured we'd like to buy a Prius. Called E.J. at Capitol Toyota in San Jose, gave him our choices and credit card number.
7/31 Car Arrives, we pick up and pay by check.
8/1 Drive to San Francisco to get transponder (nice drive!)
8/2 Employee of Capitol Toyota goes and collects all DMV paperwork at their various dealerships
8/3 Employee of Capitol Toyota personally goes to DMV to get plates, calls me to tell me my plate number - I send my application in. Asks if I want my plates sent to me, or if I'd like to come pick up at the dealership.
8/4 Pick-up plates at dealership and put on my 4 day old car.

I'll update when my stickers come in - but man, what service huh?

7/14 Had license plates in hand and mailed application with license plate # via regular mail with personal check
7/22 DMV deposited check

7/28 "date issued" for stickers
8/4 Stickers received in mail

Purchased my Prius on 7/15.

Plates arrived to today 8/7.

Dropped sticker application and check in the mail at the post office before the end of day cut off.

I live in Sac so the paperwork will probably get to DMV tomorrow. That doesn't mean it will be opened the same day.

The stickers were a huge reason I picked this car. HOV lane access will save me a couple of hours a week.

After the press release by the assembly member last week I started to get anxious about whether I'd get my HOV sticker in time. I mailed my application in on 8/2 and like many of you, wanted to see whether I'd get my sticker before they hit the 75k limit. So, I did a little extrapolating from the information that people have posted on this thread and came up with this estimate (you can see my work below). Based on the rates for the past month+, if you send in your application before Sept. 10, you should get in before they run out. Of course the rates that they issues stickers may increase (or decrease) so you never know and this is just my rough rough estimate, but it made me feel better Hopefully it's accurate.

 

I just wish that there was a way you could do this over the web or track more of it over the web. I mailed it with Express Mail to make sure they got it but it would be cool to be able to trace it from there rather than wait to see when the check clears.

Nice work, guess your rather anxious like the rest of us to get it. I wonder how long it will take to remember that I CAN use the HOV lane, haha!!!

 

Hrm, i sent my app in on 7/20 and the check got cashed on 7/25, but still no stickers in the mail

Hopefully will come in the next couple days.. does anyone know if there's a good phone number or email contact if it's not here next week?

 

Should one asssume that if his check got cashed that his stickers are enroute?

I was able to get the ARB's phone number but that is not the location that handles the actual stickers. So I dont think it will be easy to track down your app. I wish I had that number still in front of me but if you call DMV, number from web, they will give you the Air Resource Board?'s number. They are pretty friendly and seem to have the answers to my question. If I find the number I will post it...

* I understand that some people have had applications rejected if they didn't have the Plate Number. This was first experience where the dealership actually assigned the plates, and mailed them to me. I'm guessing that DMV found this information when the reviewed my application.

Supposedly they have reached 74,000+ applications, and the window will close in a few weeks. They received about 200 applications per week.

I got mine on 7/14/06, and pressed the dealership to process my plates. I got the plates on 7/24 and submitted the application the next day. Received the stickers today. The sticker number is 700xx.

 

Happy with Prius (and ToyotaTown of Stockton),
NOT happy with DMV (what a shock).

7/6 First test drive, put down deposit at local BayArea dealer, told wait would be 2 to 4 months.
7/10 Got impatient, started calling around outside Bay Area. ToyotaTown calls me, says they have what I want on a ship, arriving in two weeks.
7/11 AM ToyotaTown says their schedule was wrong, and the car had just arrived in the lot.
7/11 PM Gilbert from ToyotaTown delivers my new Barcelona Red Pkg 8 Prius to my doorstep in San Jose. Wow. That was so fast, I don't even have my bank loan set up. ToyotaTown sets up conditional financing.
7/17 Bank loan get through to ToyotaTown, they start registration process.
7/18 I tell Gilbert I need plate number to get the HOV sticker. He says they'll hurry.
7/19 Go down to FasTrak office, get transponder and a crappy laser-printer receipt.
7/20 Plates arrive via DHL from Toyota town. Yes, they overnighted my plates to me.
7/21 HOV app in the mail to DMV.

Awesome up to now. But wait.....

8/8 HOV app returned by DMV, saying that I must include the FasTrak receipt, with all the pertinent information. Which I had.
8/9 Talked to nice lady at DMV who couldn't tell me why the app was returned. I even faxed her the FasTrak receipt, which she said looked fine. She suggested I "just try sending everything in again".
8/10 HOV app in the mail to DMV once again.

Only things I can figure are either the laser printer the FasTrak office used to print the receipt was so crummy that DMV thought it was a copy and not the original, or DMV was upset that the plate number wasn't on the FasTrak receipt, even though it was on the application and registration.

I haven't seen anyone on any of the forums mentioning a similar problem. Seems like everyone getting their app returned is because of not having the plates yet.

And I see someone just got sticker number 700##......

Argh, anyone have a number that gets through to Special Processing Unit?

I tried ARB, who directed me to DMV, who directed me to presumably Special Processing Unit at 800-242-4450, but it doesn't get through at all.

It's been 3 weeks since my check has been cashed and the company line seems to be that it can take up to 8 weeks after that to get the stickers, although seems most people on this board get it much quicker.

 

Ok, I can confirm that the number that dhu gave will direct you to someone who can give a status update, although the line is generally busy when you call: 916-657-8035

Unfortunately, it looks like my app was routed to some slower folks as my check has been cashed for 3 wks... they mentioned probably 2 - 3 more weeks until I receive it.
