The Multi Function Display on my 2005 Prius has been acting up for a few months now. Occasionally it will work normally, possibly more when it’s colder, but other times it acts all crazy displaying the normal screen with numbers missing or scrambled or just something bizarre and then it also seemed to be reseting often, as if I’m listening to something on the sound system it will stop when it resets. Sometimes it displays the Lexus logo. I did have it removed the whole dash including the MFD about a year ago when I was changing the odometer display which went out.

Any ideas what going on here?

try disconnecting the 12v negative for a few minutes. if that doesn't work, you may have to replace it.

Does that work for the MDF, and he already has replaced the CM?

@BentSpace, the MDF has been know to develop bad solder joints, the details of which you will need to use the search function. The MDF can be remedied by reflowing the joints.

I tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. When I started it up the MFD was just black. Haven't driven it around yet though since, so maybe it will come back on. Also noticed my gas gauge was reading empty, even though I just filled up.

It's got 266,000 miles on it.

The gas gauge reading is normal. It takes a while to figure things out after the battery has been disconnected. I forget if adding gas helps or not.

So my screen finally died completely and doesn’t come on anymore at all. I assume it’s that common problem for cars of this year. Wondering what my best option is now. I looked at hobbits fix for it and was considering trying to do it myself. I have a soldering iron. Sounds a little tricky though. Any of you guys do it successfully?

There’s a lot of used ones on eBay for around $200, but since it seems like a common problem i was worried that it might break soon after purchase or already be broken.

Prius MFD Touchscreen Repair Or there is these people that will fix yours, if you mail it to them for $299.

Does anyone know if you can replace a MFD with navigation for one without?
