I have a noise in the front wheel bearing at left side but I had changed it before 2 years with koyo bearing from my Toyota dealer but it failed again but don't know the reason. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
First most likely is the mechanic who inspected all the associated parts before installing the new wheel bearing failed you... Or they put the bearing in place in a dirty shop with dirty tools and dirt and grime caused it to fail prematurely. Complaining to them might get you a discount? Second option is that it's a specific driving condition on a specific road or parking spot and you beat the crap out of that wheel in the same way often.
I would buy a toyo bearing from rockauto.com and get the warranty figured out. either way , if you do the tire test (hands at 0 and 6 o clock) and it moves up and down, and then left and right, then cause its a bearing I would highly say you change it since its a safety issue.
I can echo the complaint of the original poster. I've replaced noisy wheel bearings in 3 different Priuses by 150k miles. The replacement bearings in the most recent one lasted a mere 8k miles before requiring a third set of bearings. The most recent bearing failure was interesting in that never progressed to the grinding noise phase. It hummed for more than 5k miles before I got annoyed enough to replace it.
So something to report. after about a year and 20k km the bearing i installed gave out it was this one More Information for TIMKEN HA590064 Im hard pressed to blame the part since its a good part but not sure . it broke shy of 20 days of warranty, just as our winter turned to spring. so now i had to get my mechanic to put in a new bearing.
