Ok... I have a 2015 Pri C 3 and I purchased a wireless backup camera off eBay. When I went to install it, i found out there was a harness I needed to purchase that adds the yellow cable so I can hookup the camera. So, I did and went to install it.

While installing, i noticed the harness (the only one the same size as this new one) has 4 pinned wires while the one in the instructions look to have 10-15 wires.

    Is this correct?

    How should I proceed?

    Please see pics

    Thank you for any assistance

Could you post the make and model of camera and harness you bought (with links, if PriusChat will let you include them), a clear photo or scan of each page of the instructions, and clear photos of each connector, please?

Look closely. I think you are confusing your 24-pin connector with your 28-pin connector.

It sounds like you might be getting hung up on the camera power line- that's understandable because it is weird.

When you switch to reverse, one of the wires on the 28-pin harness goes to +12v. The stereo switches to camera view, then forwards a regulated 6v out on the 24-pin harness lines to power the camera.

It looks to me like you need to use your new harness to adapt the wireless receiver video signal into the 24-pin harness and trim off the 6v power wires, don't use them. Then take a tap of the 12v reverse select line on the 28-pin harness and feed that to the power input of the wireless receiver. I think it would be safe to also jump that to the native camera line going to the back of the car for the wireless transmitter.

You are correct... that Fig 1 is if I needed to add the reverse switch pin.

This looks like the only place I can go with the 24 pin

Yeah I looked through the instructions you posted and it looks like it will work fine using the guidance in my previous post.

    EDIT:

You could maybe simplify things just by using any 12v source for the wireless xmit & receive. Then all you're doing with that 24-pin adapter is connecting it to the wireless receiver (RCA) and plug the 24-pin into your stereo IN PLACE OF the native connector, and leave the native one loose. Put tape over the head to prevent contact & rattles. The difference is that your camera would be broadcasting pictures all the time, and the receiver turning it back into video all the time- but the stereo would ignore the picture until you actually switch into reverse.

    Great.. thank you!

Just confirming that I’m not using the red and black wire on the front wireless unit, just plugging in the 24 harness? (See below)

The reason I’m asking is cause I thought I need 12v to power the camera instead of 6v.

Oh and finally, any suggestions on what wire (color/location) I should be tapping into in the rear/tailgate to power the rear wireless camera part?

You need to supply power to the wireless receiver somehow- its red and black wires need to connect to 12v somewhere. It's up to you whether you tap it from the accessory power to the stereo, or from the switched 12v reverse select wire, or some other source.

You definitely don't want to use the power lines coming out of your new 24-pin harness, as that will be 6v intended for an OE camera.

I've never had the tailgate apart, not sure what you'll find back there.

To say it another way: the only reason you are using that new 24-pin harness is to connect the video + and video ground wires, just two wires. You're just using this to adapt the RCA to a 24-pin shell. The power lines coming out of that 24-pin are worthless to you, clip them, cap them off and make sure they can't short. You'll still need to supply 12v to the receiver, and the 24-pin kit has nothing to do with this.

Why not power it off of the reverse lights?

I guess you could, but that might complicate things since the reverse lights are not in the tailgate where the camera is (presumably) going.
