my Prime sipped some gas today

Perhaps review a thread about how to put gas into a car before you decide to fill up. It has been a while and that is an old memory.

(I noticed gas has gone up 10 cents in my area over the last few days) (Now $2.77)

 

Gas jumped over 20 cents a gal last tuesday here. Maybe kiddingly tied to the tmobile tuesday 25 cents off a gal up to 20 gal??

If fumes in and out of tank aren't an issue then why did the pump nozzles get that stupid sealing system installed??

 

The bunker fuel used by ships is so high in sulfur that many places don't allow its use 'near' shore. The industry is switching to lower sulfur content this month. That could increase the price of all fuels a refinery makes.

Those aren't for fumes going in, just going out, and the evaporative controls on many cars have reached the point that they aren't needed for most locations.

Water in fuel isn't good, but it isn't much of an issue with ethanol in nearly everything. If it does become a problem, the solution is the same as it was before ethanol in gas, add alcohol to the tank.

The real concern about leaving the tank partially filled all the time wasn't because of water in the fuel, but of the tank rusting from the inside out. With nearly every car using a plastic tank today, that isn't a concern anymore.

 

I am still going in with the tmobile effect. And fumes out air in. Unless you are going into a vacuum state.. Water in the tank is water in the tank. 'plastic' or not. No thanks!

 

ICE will also come on and cycle up (for approx. 3 minutes) if you accidentally hit the HV/EV button instead of the Drive Mode button, which I've done many times! I wish they weren't so close together...

 

Probably not a bad thing to let the ICE start and cycle every now and then...especially if you drive your Prime almost always in EV mode....which is fine and kind of the point.

 

The point of modern evporative emission controls means less fumes get out, so less air gets in. Air might come in when fuel gets burned, but the fuel systems are now sealed and become pressurized while the car is running. Of course, the air is pushed out on a fill up.

Most of the water in the fuel, and thus the tank, was rain water that worked its way into the station tanks. It also tends to pick up salts and compounds that make it acidic on its way there.

A PHEV should handle that all on its own. The first generation ones did so, and with the data from them, the engineers have a better idea on how often these maintenance modes are actually needed in a PHEV running on EV all the time.

 

Gas prices have been dropping around here. Was $2.82 a few weeks ago. Now $2.67. Not that I care since I can't remember the last time I filled up.

 

I just added 3 gallons to my tank. First time since I’ve owned the car. I wasn’t sure if the fuel door release even worked. It did. I splurged and put in Premium, the car’s worth it.

 

Average gas prices here for Regular gas are $3.90/gallon; does the Prime run on gas??!! I wish somebody had told me!! Wow, what a benefit!!
I'll have to try it before gas prices hit $5.00/gal.
Where does the gas go?? I just moved here from planet Neptune....

Update: Now gas is down from $2.67 to $2.51 in a few days.
