Just when you thought Entune 3.0 couldn't get any worse

Boo, shame on you Toyota. Pandora was about the only app I ever used on Entune. I heart radio has been bankrupt for years, why not get rid of them instead!

This is the biggest stain on an otherwise awesome vehicle.

BTW I just updated the maps on Mom's Mazda. It was easy. I like the way Mazda does Nav. Free updates for 3 years. The system still works after 3 year but your maps get old. I can live with that.

I despise the way Entune and Scout work on my Camry. Just got air vent dash mounts for our phones. That should do the trick...

No way Toyota will ever see a cent of my money for any of their services. Honestly even if their apps were good it is unlikely I'd give them any money but the way it stands there is zero chance.

It is weird how much I like my car but at the same time how much this infotainment business hacks me off. If I don't buy a Toyota next time this will be the reason.

 

Something else they do better: our son got a CX-5, and I see tpms sensors are only $35 apiece (online Canadian dealership, free shipping), and the car will recognize new sensors, no dealership intervention needed, simply by driving around for a few minutes.

Toyota should wake up on this: you can have a generally great product, but if there is some element that is maddening, and/or you're gouging customers after-sale, they're gonna get alienated.

I still don't know what Entune does. This whole infotainment things are something I don't look for in a car. I already have enough information to absorb and quite easily entertained without all those gadgets.

Guess what, Honda Clarity is even better on that end. They removed TPMS sensor all together, and went with indirect TPMS. There is no radio signal emitting sensors to replace inside of tires. All the better.

 

That is actually an older system, but is making a come back with better ABS sensors.

Yap, I knew that. Our 2005 Sienna had indirect TPMS even though it was before the law became in effect.

 

Let me give Toyota a little credit here: At least their recent announcement got me off my haunches to explore the possibility of replacing my 2014 Prius 4's OEM head unit....

As I understand it, indirect TPMS works by ABS sensors. When one tire lose air, slight differences in rotational speed can be detected. With this system absolute tire pressure can not be known. Also in very rare event when all four tires lose air at the same rate, system will fail to detect the loss of air. It was used in many older cars for simpler implementation, but in time taken over by direct TPMS with radio signal emitting internal sensors. I read in an article that with more sensitive ABS sensors today, indirect TPMS is coming back in some European and Japanese cars.

 

sounds good. you can't tell what the pressure is in the prius tires or what tire is low, so how much worse can it be.

 

Since it looks at wheel rotations, the wheels have to be spinning for it to take a measurement.
If the car isn't telling you actual pressures with the radio sensors, I'd be fine with its faults.

 

Agreed. Plus, if dealing with direct TPMS for tire changes (twice a year) is not as complicated and expensive, I would prefer direct method. In theory, direct TPMS is better for knowing actual tire pressure real time even when car is sitting at parking. However, my experience with a car equipped with direct TPMS is that it always had some lug time before warning light came on. All of the cases were slow leak.

 

If you are pumping your tires higher, keep in mind the TPMS warning is set against the manufacturer pressures. Some can be reset to the users level.
The Camry SE actually displays the tire pressure readings. It reads a little higher than my hand gauge, but is nice, since I don't need to swap in winter tires.
