For what you can do yourself, the economic decision can be very different than if you have to pay somebody going rate for the same work. Me, I can repair mechanical or electrical issues all day long, but sheet metal and paint work just are not in my wheelhouse. If I fixed it, it would look like I fixed it. So I chose to use the settlement money to move on, and let the crunched car be fixed by somebody who really can do that stuff. -Chap
