    I'm sorry for your loss. I have 2 more years to pay on my 2012 sonata that an uninsured jeep smashed July 3rd. I can totally relate.

    Why not try to fix it. Depends on how much damage... Sometimes it can look really bad but be only superficial. And vice versa.

    For what you can do yourself, the economic decision can be very different than if you have to pay somebody going rate for the same work.

    Me, I can repair mechanical or electrical issues all day long, but sheet metal and paint work just are not in my wheelhouse. If I fixed it, it would look like I fixed it.

    So I chose to use the settlement money to move on, and let the crunched car be fixed by somebody who really can do that stuff.
