Is this the new one or the older one you are talking about? Just keep the faith. It took me over a year when my 4 Runner got totaled. I finally found 1 that I liked, wanted another color but you can’t have everything.

    Oh sorry. The 2009

    The other one was sold.

I do not know about that price for struts, seems high.

Thnx for the encouraging words there!

    Appreciated.

No problem. I don’t know if you have another car or this is your only transportation. When my 4 runner got totaled it was my only car. I borrowed an extra car from my parents and bought a cheap Honda Civic for daily transportation to get me buy. I needed another 4X to go camping, skiing and tow my boat. Took me a year to find one I liked but that Civic payed for itself in gas savings alone

price seems high to me too. you could call around and ask for strut replacement costs.

i'm not sure they need replacing either. sometimes mechanics just need to 'find something'.

If they are leaking then it would be a good idea to replace them. The lady that owned my car had the struts replaced in 2014 at big o tires. It was 800 for all 4 back then so 900 seems reasonable

I'll call around to see cause i know the seller wasn't too happy with the estimate as well nor did she jump when I suggested to deduct it from the selling price.

Yes they said they were leaking.

No word from that owner about minusing that cost from the selling price. I'll continue my search today for an alternate Prius.

Oh btw in your other post you asked if if I have another car but no I don't. I've been walking, ubering, and busing it since I sold my EV over two weeks ago.

Kinda getting sick of that but I don't want it to drive me a bad decision in buying ANYTHING.

One of many good things about Prii here out West is there are SOOOO many for sale. It is actually great cause the competition keeps prices competitive and I get to pick and choose from many.

Los Angeles, which is the biggest city thats very close to me seems to have the greatest amount of Prii for sale. I should just take the 45 min flight there and buy there.

Yes California has a lot of Prius’s. But remember when they were new you could use them in the carpool lanes. That was a huge reason people were buying them.

I'm confused. Your profile says you are in NYC?

I highly recommend getting an OBDI reader and an app to look at info about any car you are interested in. It will tell you so much at a glance.

I bought this from Amazon, $11, based upon recommendations from the web site PriusApp.com .

Coupled with apps such as Dr. Prius and Dash Command, you can get more information from a Prius than what the Seller probably knows. IMHO, a Seller who is not willing to let you plug in and read the car's basic characteristics, probably has concerns.

How well does that OBDII reader work? I have heard some of the blue elf clones don’t work very well

If you go to PriusChat.com, you can read the actual testing results of several readers of many colors

So far, I haven't had any issues with Dr. Hybrid, or Dash Command. I couldn't get Torque to find the adapter, but since 2 other apps found it right away I'm putting the glitch on Torque.

Torque was exactly the app I was thinking about. That’s the one that has problems with those adapters. Thanks.

No clue how to update that. I tried all over the profile area and couldn't delete that.

    I'm in Arizona now.

    Thnx much! Did it.

I'm active on alot of other non car forums and usually have no issues updating; this one is kinda formatted differently.

    Thnx much Bisco!

7 grand for any 10 year old car is insane, they are all going to be be money pits ..
forget the battery when the ABS actuator fails its $3400
than the digital dash has issues so theres another grand..
low miles on a hybrid isnt a good thing, that just means its sat around not being charged.
they want twice what the car is worth in the real world, use common sense.

I understand all that, things can happen to any used cars, not just Prii.

The bottom line is NO one is selling any mint 2009 Prius for less than that. The KBB is even higher.

There aren't any to be found and the last month I looked at 100s of them for sale online.

What you say might be true but that's not reality at all, not for Prii.

Location is everything. Many 2009 here in SW Texas that are in great shape for 5-6K

about the same in Florida with clean titles.. but to each their own
the reality is many cars get 40+ mpg now and you dont have to deal with the hybrid problems..
I know when mine dies Ill be looking elsewhere.
