I finally got back in to town today. I'm going to crack open that document and have a look under the hood. Mine only has about 4000 miles on it, so we'll see.

I hadn't received a notice yet, but my dealer, Toyota of Muncie performed the recall at the 50k service this week.

    Sounds like an easy one!

Toyota did say that they would notify owners by the end of September...

As to the fix, it's easy if it hasn't worn through. If it has worn through, that remains to be seen as to what has to be done.

    That is incorrect.
The dealer remedy instructions are clearly spelled out in the link in post 69 in this thread.

For the lazy here is the part number list & what proof the dealer needs to provide Toyota to get the parts. My concern is they are only supposed to look for damage on the underside of the driver side cable. My damage is on the top side of the passenger side cable.

I just hope it doesn't take too long because my Prius is my only ride.

I called two SoCal Toyota dealers on Saturday, and they never heard of this wiring recall. Typical! :ROFLMAO: I haven't gone in for any of the previous recalls or TSB's yet. There's no freakin' way I'm letting those guys tear out the entire dashboard to replace that airbag.

I smelled a strange "burning odor" on the inside of my Prius yesterday. But no odor under the hood.

That Corolla with the simple 4-cyl gas motor keeps looking better & better.

If they have to replace the complete wiring harness? Good luck with that!!!

I read the instructions and do not trust the local dealer. I need to figure out how to use my preferred dealer 150 miles away.

That's what I meant. It's a major job. There are pictures and details in the link someone provided.
If they have to do all that, replace the wiring, I'll pass.
If they simply tape it, Ok.

Better yet, let it burn up. Then I can buy the Corolla. $19,240 for a 2019 Corolla LE. :D Or a Camry for $22,000. :) Or a nice red Mazda CX-5 SUV like Mendel has been driving. (y) $24,000.

I'll be getting it done - I suspect if I didn't respond, and it turned into:
    upload_2018-9-17_20-0-41.png ;

my insurance wouldn't come to the party - nor would TOYOTA.

Alternatively trade up - and as I take delivery of my new car, let them know it has recall on the trade.

This 2016 Prius sure has turned out to be a disappointment. No car is perfect of course. But Toyota has been building theses things for 19 years?!? There shouldn't be all these bugs & rattles & recalls. The build quality has gone downhill. Maybe I will leave Toyota altogether.

I'm happy - better than my friend's new German car he bought 8 months ago - and has spent quite a few days in their workshop.

Mine had a recall, a clip, which they fixed up while in for first service, a faulty brake-light switch and now this second recall. By the sounds of it, it is likely that some tape will solve the problem in almost all cases.

I came to Toyota after finally getting rid of an oil-burning Subaru Forester that had the engine replaced twice under warranty, so this is a bit of a disappointment. I just don't really trust a mechanic to put everything back together to factory spec, after looking at the instructions. Will they really follow all of the torque specs? Will it all be put back together exactly as it came from the factory? I'm really hoping the tape fix will do the trick.

I wouldn't be concerned - by the sounds of the wording, the use of the words "may", "could" and "possibility" - I'm hoping that it means that the vast majority will only need 3.94" of tape added at the most.

A roll of tape should be standard equipment included in every new Prius glove box.

(Torque specs? I missed that part. After a simple tire rotation, they never even torque the wheel lug nuts as required. And how long before this cheap tape job falls off??! Dust, dirt, heat.... I'm trying to remain positive. Carry a fire extinguisher in your trunk.. or run FAST.)

This DOES NOT fix the recall area...only where MY Prius had a top inverter wiring harmess rubbing on the sharp lip of the plastic cover. The cover lip was sharp enough to potentially wear through to the inverter wiring over time. Yours might have the same potential issue.

I made an appt with my dealer for Thursday for the recall inspection. Of course the service advisor I spoke with knew nothing about it...go figure that.

While looking around the area covered by the recall I found a sharp lip on the top plastic cover for the inverter wiring harness has been chafing the inverter wiring harness tape enough to wear mark it. The sharp cover lip was only rubbing on the top of the left side inverter upper wiring harness.

I fixed this potential issue permanently with a pair of side cutters and about 5 minutes. I cut the plastic cover about 1” deep and 1.5” long where the left wiring harness was rubbing on the cover lip. This removed the sharp lip on the cover that was rubbing the top inverter wiring harness tape. Plenty of clearance now and no more rubbing wear.

Were you able to see the underside of the cable easily? I still haven't had a chance to have a look.
