I have around 20k mikes on my Michelin Premier AS tires. They are still very smooth and quiet. Wet weather handling and performance seems just as good as dry weather. The factory Toyo tires had plenty of tread, but they hydroplaned badly in a rain storm while driving on the interstate. I removed them that same week. I don’t have any scientific data, but the loss of 1-2 mpg was worth the increased performance.
I agree about the Toyo tires. Even on a damp street, I lost traction a few times when accelerating from a stop. I wish my Premiers were as quiet as you all say they are. Maybe mine are defective, but they are the loudest tires I have ever had. A constant "hum" noise, like a 4X4 truck. The noise increases as the weather gets hotter. (PSI is at factory specs.) Looking forward to maybe trying the Defender next, or a different brand altogether. Something less expensive.
Which Speed rating tires did you get with your Michelin Premier AS? V or H or something else? Does it really matter? I need tires for my 2012 Prius V (5).
Mine are V rated, which were only a few dollars more. H-Rated Tires with Shorter Life Spans - Consumer Reports
