I've had the '17 Volt for about six weeks, and can't begin to express how happy I am with this car. It's used 3 gallons of gas over 1500 miles I've driven in the the first month! It's become the go-to car in the family. My wife says she loves the way it drives. It's comfy and spacious up front, & quite fun and pleasing to drive. It really is an electric car, I can understand now why GM refers to it as such. Gas has become sort of an option, so when I did stop at the pump, I decide to fill the tank only half way. That was about $10 bucks, and should last a couple thousand miles. Steering, accelerator and brake pedal all feel super smooth and "normal". Nothing grabby or peculiar with the regen brakes. Having said that, one pedal driving has surprisingly become the norm for me, and the regen paddle behind the steering wheel is useful and handy during one pedal driving. The look and styling is much better in person than any picture can reveal, with some sharp creases and edges in the panels that give it a sharp appearance. The driver information display (instruments) are nicely laid out and make efficient driving techniques easy to figure out. Sport mode turns it into a mini Telsa wanna-be when you floor it. It's one of those gotta drive-it to appreciate-it things, GM did a fine job. It deserves to be a better seller.
congrats! i don't understand why they haven't sold more. some say bad dealers. did you consider bolt?
I went to our local dealer to test drive a Volt and Bolt. They had neither on their lot. They had a Volt in the pipeline and it was scheduled to arrive in a few days. Salesman gave me his card and said he would call when it arrives. Three weeks later and no call. I have checked their website and the Volt still appears in transit!
Yes, I did. My next car will certainly be a 250 mile+ EV. There are so many things to like about the Bolt and I hope GM expands on its EV architecture and makes more cars. It's gotta appeal to my eye, though.
Remember gm is the company that made the EV1, and only offered it as a lease, and when the leases were up they took all the cars and crashed them (there must have been a hell of battle within the company [we’ll built your ev{but kill} and show you the people hate it]) ever heard of company selling a product(that was safe) that people like and are buying (leasing) and taking said product and removing from the face of the earth. GM. look up GM Ev1, if you don't already know some of the story, (I am sure there is more to the story - that is why my ...(there must have been a hell of battle within the company...
Literally as well. I hated what GM did with the EV1. I also loved what Toyota did with the Prius. Companies change over time. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for worse.
If you want to know about the development and politics involved at and around GM to bring the EV1 to production, I suggest reading this book. Here's another read on the car. General Motors EV1 - Wikipedia
3 months, 3,000 miles, 5 gallons of gas. Still delighted with the Volt. One unintended consequence of an ICE that rarely runs....Road grime builds up on the exhaust and causes a smell when the ICE does run, gets hot, and burns it off. Who would have thought..?
i've done that without a smell. i wonder if the prius exhaust is covered better or if it is the roads?
