Prius Myths and their Rebuttals

I had the battery replaced last year (July 2016) in my 2010 Prius and the total cost was $3599.46. Oddly enough it died at 6 years and 148,490 miles. It is now pushing 170,000 mile range.

 

If you lived in California, the cost of that replacement would have been exactly $0.00

Cost $3000 for battery and the cats value is $1000 according to my dealer 175,000 miles.
Wanting some feedback on trade in or new battery ???

 

lots of variables to consider
battery totally dead? how is the engine? burning much oil? have that kind of cash? what would you consider for a different car if you got rid of this one?

Actually to be accurate $1,625.80 plus $1,350.00 core deposit for people close to Hollywood, Florida 33021.

 

This scenario brings up the interesting question. What is a high mile prius worth IF you replace the HV pack with NEW one? In this case the dealer says the car is valued at $1000 as is, but what about After the pack change? Does the value go up equal to the added Pack or do you only get 75% of the pack cost added back to the value of the car?

why bother with toyota dealer battery if a greenbean battery costs a fraction of it and gives you 5 yr full warranty unlimited miles

 

It depends on the process that GBB uses, but if they are not refurbishing with brand new battery modules, then it is just another rebuilt with old second-hand modules. As they are offering a 5 year warranty, I want to believe they are not just rebuilding.

There are not many people, of the few here that have stated they have used them, who have reported back on how their GBB is going and this company is a relatively "new kid on the block", so it could be a while before they can be actively endorsed by us here.

Probably a good sign that there haven't been many reports. People are probably more likely to report bad experiences than satisfactory.

 

To be more accurate the deposit is fully refunded if you are replacing your original battery.

My collection of facts:
Hybrid cars use gasoline. Electric cars use electricity generated mostly by burning coal (with associated energy losses). It would take a rooftop of solar panels all day to charge an electric car, but that's something to aspire to.
Environmentally, I'm sure the Prius uses less resources overall if driven for a long time. That said, there might not be enough resources in the world for EVERY world citizen to own one.
My Prius has lasted for 125,000 miles, and I've driven it hard. My guess is that they would last, on average, 150,000-200,000 miles
Battery replacement is expensive. I've never heard of $6000, but would not be surprised. If I buy 28 new modules on Amazon, I'll basically have a new battery, but have to DIY.

New HV batteries are $1600 +/-. There is a PC member @2Ktoaster who sells an excellent, new one for that.

CARB warranty on the battery.

 

The poster was alluding to the std CA CARB 150,000 mi/10 year warranty. The car to which the poster was referring was inside the CA warranty, but alas the said car was in TX so only had 80,000/8 year warranty.
