Timely, Elon just dropped the color choices from 9 to 7 as of tomorrow, we’ll, you can still get the two colors, just 500$ extra.
My favorite color that got dropped for 'no-cost' extra, was white. Missed it by that much - just a little over 1½ yrs ago. So for a whole lot more, we had to go pearl white. I suppose you can go black then get a wrap in about any color you want, and that way - if your color choice is way too outrageous - when it comes time to sell, you can just peel off the wrap. .
Elon Musk Plans to Speed Tesla Production With Fewer Paint Colors | Fortune Hmmmm.....what was old is new again..... Superinnovators: You can have any color you want, so long as it's black.
it's funny how paint is a spur in the saddle. it never occurred to me that it isn't a pretty scientific process these days.
rainbow model 3 - ha! Yep - some just can't get the color they want from the manufacturer; Saw this one on the way home - just pass the Irvine train station - they had all their Chrome blacked out too; This one was next to us when we went in for our one year service; Hopefully these folks all have a black base coat so they're not out any extra cash - when it comes time to sell, if the new owner doesn't like the wrap. .
So go price a Porsche with the PTS option. That is Paint To Sample. Makes Tesla optional color pricing trivial. Heck even Toyota charges extra for some colors.
The Dodge Viper had a red that was between $14,000 and $15,000. Alone, nothing else included with that price. The old Volvo had ala carte options, divided into two tiers. There was a fee to simply access the second tier. Cruise control was on that tier.
They dropped the base white and titanium silver metallic at the same time as they discontinued the X60D. I missed the X60D by a month, which brought the base price up from $74k to $84k back in late 2016. The base price of the S at the time was $66k. I was interested in the X, but not for $18k more than the S (didn't care about dual motors or smart air suspension).
AFAIK he has neither a Tesla or Leaf at this point. Think he was referring to others who took delivery.
The staging area that I posted photos of earlier has been loaded with Teslas for the past few days. About two miles up the hill from here, there's a 3 sitting in the driveway. There goes the neighborhood.
Tesla is now offering amid-range version of the Model 3. Cost is $4000 less than the long range version, currently starting at $45k. 260 epa rated range.
Yes, if you can get the order page working. It seems it is a bit busy. I refreshed a few times to get it to work.
Interesting that the battery terminology seems to have changed. Before there was the "long range" and "standard range". Now there is "mid range". Is a shorter range "standard range" yet to come? Still only available with premium interior. I don't think this is yet the $35k version that some people are waiting for.
