2012 white on grey leather, 71k, has charger, all service records, red carpool sticker, new tires, its extremely clean inside and the outside is good except the led headlights getting faded. My issue is I want radar cruise control and this is hard to find. dealership won't budge past 17500 out the door with everything. This seems crazy high for a 2012.

i am reading some people purchasing new for 21k after all the tax benefits?????? I am in California

You might be better off to go with a new one. I was looking for a Gen 3 with Advanced Tech Package before I bought my Gen 4. They seem to be very rare, possibly because the Tech Package was so costly. I was most interested in the Gen 3 because the Lane Keep Assist on that model is more aggressive (and to my thinking) more useful than the Lane Departure Warning with Steering Assist on the Gen 4. Perhaps people who feel the same as I do are bidding up the prices on the used Gen 3 cars with Tech Package.

what does a new one cost with whatever package I need to have DRCC, basically the package you have will do. It seems though new is going to be very expensive

All new Prii (Priuses) come with DRCC, so the price you pay depends only on your negotiating skills. I am not a commuter, so the Prime was of no interest to me, but if a Plug-In suits your situation, I believe the best deals can be made on the Prime, including the tax benefits.

I wouldn't say completely different as they are both plug in's with different range capabilities. I am well aware of all the difference between the models and the prime is a huge step up in many categories.

Are you set on a Plug-in / Prime or will any Prius do with DRCC? Cars.com is showing five used '17 regular Prius for under $20k in southern CA (within 250 miles of LA). One is just under $18k. I wanted a Plug-in Advanced and watched for months before finding a good deal on one early last year. They are rare. I may have seen one other one other than my own.

I think I see the car for you - '12 PIP Advanced. Under 100k miles. Under $13k. Clean car fax. For sale by Toyota dealer. SoCal, probably worth the drive. Looks like it has carpool sticker.

Btw, just because a car is advertised as "Advanced" does not mean it is. I'd guess half of those advertised as such, are not. One way to tell on many ad pics is whether it has the headlight washer covers (ovals) just below the headlights (not the tow hook cover!).

I sold my 2012 PIP (California car), 103,000 miles, perfect condition, always dealer maintained for $10,000, about 1 year ago. With the prices for used PIPs I'm seeing here, I'd buy the new Prime; try for a new 2017 Advanced. If I live that long, I'll sell my 2017 Prime Advanced when she hits 100,000k. Absolutely a wonderful automobile!

yes, many advertise advanced and its a base model. You have to see the steering wheel for the LKA or DRCC.

The prime will probably be 27k after rebate (this is my guess).

sometimes you find an advanced advertised as a base, and you get it for the base price. now that's a great find.

the days of 21k primes are over. look through the prime pricing thread. not sure if it is worth flying east for the price difference.

can you still get all the tax rebates if I go out of state?
Can I still get the tax rebates for like a test drive car on the lot? (new car but probably 1k miles or so)

I'm from PA and bought new in MD and received both the federal tax credit and PA tax rebate. It couldn't be titled to anyone before and for PA it couldn't have more than 500 miles on it. I don't know what the federal regulation is as far as miles. That was in 2012. Maybe things have changed.

Get the new one. Car seems suspicious to me because it's a 6 year old car with a red sticker. Either the car is from CA and never had a sticker before (rare but possible), came from out-of-state so the dealer has little history, or the dealer is shady. If it's a Toyota dealer, they should AT LEAST be able to pull up the service records based on the VIN if it was done at a Toyota dealer.
