Friends: I need to get my bumper replaced as someone rear ended (very minor but needs to get the bumper replaced). If so, I may lose my green HOD decal. My current decal was issued(for the first time) in April 2017, valid till the end of this year. If I apply for a replacement decal, I may get the RED decal, which gets expired by the end of this year. Do I have another option to apply for the brand new, 2019 issued(4 years valid) new decal? What is your advice? Shall I nicely remove my current decal(with some heat gun etc) and re-stick it on the new bumper(I dont think this re-sticking would hold like the original glue). OR shall I go ahead and apply for new decal now(I will have the insurance pay that cost) and apply AGAIN at the end of this year? Pl advice. Thanks
Apply for the replacement sticker. Your car is eligible to get the red sticker anyway starting 1/1/19. If they send you the red ones early, that's even better. Red stickers are valid until 1/1/22 (they don't expire at the end of 2018).
Answering my own question: I was able to delay my bumper fix and now I got an invitation to apply for new 4 years valid decal from DMV, jumped on it.
Update: I got my new HOV stickers (RED) valid till the end of 2021. Going to put them on my car tomorrow.
