Running a toaster will do that.

Once you plug in the orange hv connector you have to slide it to engage. Otherwise no hv. 12.05v is pushing it, maybe put a charger on it CAREFULLY. Slide the hv plug FIRST and try.

Testing the seat heaters with an old battery was a bad idea. I would have readied the car first. But I think now it's a pretty good chance the 12V is the culprit. Hopefully the new one fixes things and you'll be enjoying those seat warmers in no time.

Thanks. I'll be putting on later and fingers crossed it does the trick. If not, I'm going to have to get it towed to a dealer so they can rip me off on their 300% markups on parts and labor. Geez.

Make sure to top up the new 12v before hooking it up.

What should a new Prius battery show charge under no load? I'm hoping this came fully charged

    1. Get your Prius into "Accessory Mode" - Press the power button without touching the brake pedal.
    2. Put the MFD into "Maintenance Mode" - Press and hold the "Info" button on the MFD while turning the headlights on and off 4 times.
    3. Press the "Menu" field on the screen.
    4. Press the "Signal check" field.
    5. The 12v battery voltage will be one of the items listed, it should be above 12 volts.
    6. Put a small load on the battery by pressing the power button again without touching the brake pedal. The voltage should stay above 12v.
    7. Now get your Prius into "Ready Mode" - step on the brake and press the power button. The battery voltage should immediately rise to 13.8 volts

Around 12.5 vdc or higher. Odds a simple jump or quick charge would make yours work EVEN if the battery really needs replacement. Its normal for a 12v battery to be anywhere between 11.8 and 14.5v depending on hours since last operation or the realtime charging voltage. I still vote for sliding the hv connector. The 12v does not crank the engine, it just operates the electronics in a Prius. Nevertheless, $200 or $300 for a new 12v battery won’t hurt anything except your wallet. I have had two prius cars with 300k miles total and never “needed” a 12v battery. One was ten years old. We have discharged them by accident a few times but a jump later they were fine again and the car recharged them. Slide HV.

Well. New battery, showing 12.67 under no load, still won’t start and no change whatsoever in the car. I guess I’m going to have to have it towed to a dealer. Just so baffled as to what it could be. Are these cars really this delicate?

Still have not heard if you checked the orange hv plug. It inserts, the flap closes and the you slide it to the right. People often fail to slide to right. See this video from 12:00 to 14:00 where the instructor removes it. Then you should verify yours is in correctly with three discrete motions. It also has a fuse but it highly unlikely your hv fuse is bad.

Otherwise someone needs to put a toyota techstream odb2 system and retrieve codes. I am still betting you have no hv to the hybrid systems outside the hv battery.

Firstly, thank you all so much for taking the time to help me with this.

...and the 'YOU DE MAN' award goes to RJParker. I had indeed not slid the HV switch to the right! Sweet Moses! Did that and she is working just fine. I had to run it for a while to get the system to reset and the hybrid warning light to go out but she runs great. The only thing is that now the passenger window won't wind up but I'm sure that will be working just fine in the morning, all the other windows are working, so...

Once again, everyone. Thank you so much for your kindness and willingness to help. It is greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I must have missed it. Wish I'd seen it! Would have saved me a sleepless night and a massive headache.

This is where he went wrong. “I feel good about the orange safety plug...” followed by the bad 12 v battery mantra that too many people believe. I tried to point out the hv plug by using a confirmed success in post 3 and then pushed him to provide the details in the pm a little later. The good news is he responded and owned up to disconnecting the orange plug. The “feel good” thing is a symptom of the old “assume” falacy, which leads you down the wrong path until some internet kick butt happens. Sometimes we learn the hard way. Lesson: Don’t mess with the 12 v battery when you can take an extra minute and just pull the specific fuse. And provide all of the detail a guy from Texas wants even if you are sure its not this or that.

Make sure the window lock switch is not engaged which is located on the driver’s door. There is a fuse for each door on the left side below the instrument panel. There is also a calibration procedure for the window on page 110 of manual. See five
    attachments.

Why remove it? It can serve as an object lesson.
