Could you guys list the things I should look for/ask for when I'm picking up my new Prius? Like, walk around the car, check for spare tire, manuals, gas, etc...?

One thing I saw mentioned somewhere is making sure you have a pack of valet cards. Some people got them, others didn't. If they're not in the glove box or center console, ask for them.

This thread ( http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=22148&hl= ) has a few tips I thought were very valuable.

Read about the various warranties offered by PC so at least you'll have a reference point when offered these services.

The only other thing I'd suggest is read John's manual on this PC board. It will help with the plethora of information you will be presented with during your "orientation." For a non-Toyota, non-hybrid buyer that experience can be truly overwhelming if you go unprepared.

    From my experience:
    1. Decline extended warranty - you can always purchase it later, amd most likely cheaper that at the dealer
    2. Decline prepaid maintenance - a rip-off
    3. Ask for free cargo net
    4. Ask for free tint
    5. Ask for free sunshade
    6. Ask for free dashboard cover
    7. Ask for free mudflaps
    8. Ask for free door edge guards
    9. Ask for free side mouldings - ask to "sweeten the deal" a little bit as you are most likely paying MSRP. I was able to get 3, 4, 5, and 6 for free. The dealer "couldnt get" the rest of my freeby list, or so they say. It never hurts to ask. Tell your salesmen that if he cooperates you will post a good word for him on this board. It worked for me.
    10. Run a credit report on yourself and your spouse to know your credit scrore - this will give you a pretty accurate number for your financing options
    11. Call a few local banks and credit unions to find out their financing options for your purchase

Oh, & a few other things from our recent experience:

    1. Drive the car before you sign on the dotted line. Check the steering, alignment, etc.

    2. Take all the time you need during the orientation to turn on the various lights, try the wipers, put in a CD, set a radio station, etc. Be sure that *you* are not rushed in this process either by time constaints on your side (pick up at a later time/date if that's the case) or theirs.

    3. While checking under the hood, make sure the fluids levels are filled appropriately.

    4. Be certain you have all the necesary documentation, brochures, & manual. Ask for a case if the dealership doesn't provide you one by default.

    5. Bring someone else along because you might not think of everything or ask all the relevant questions at the time. This should also reduce your stress level.

    6. Be sure to add the vehicle to your insurance policy *before* you leave the lot. BTW, "replacement insurance" is an inexpensive but good idea.
