Think the iPhone X Plus (6.5") will fit in the existing Prius Prime's Qi Charger Pad? The current one is 5.8"
I use a Galaxy S9+ and it fits in its case with room to spare. But the charger pad is slow and I only use it when the phone is almost at full charge. I have the 2017 Prime. Not sure if the 2018 was updated with a faster charger or if the 2019 will either... Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Qi charging is only with 50% efficiency, half of the power will become heat and need to be dissipated.
My iPhone X gets hot and becomes slow and unresponsive after a qi charge on my Prius Prime.. makes me wonder if this is an iOS issue or just plain terrible charger … also noticed sometimes even when the phone is perfectly centered on the charger it just doesn't charge - I have to flip the charger's on/off button or move my phone out and back on and monitor that it is in fact charging. Anyone else see this? or did I just end up with a defective car charger?!
nope, that's pretty much standard operating procedure... sometimes I have to repeat multiple times to get it to charge. I've pretty much given up on the Qi charger and now just plug in. I usually keep it on.. sometimes I get lucky and I throw it on the pad and it'll start charging right away, but usually no.
What the Qi charger in my Advanced does best for my Android phone is heat it up (and dribble a bit of charge into it as a side effect). I have a Tylt Qi charger, and with some modest care in placing the phone, it does a respectable job of charging my phone without heating it up too much, so the issue is not inherent to Qi.
Update: I picked up my iPhone XS-Max today and installed the Apple Leather Case. It fits perfectly in the Prime's Qi Charger. The phone paired with the Prime without any problems. Maybe 1/8" vertically and 1/4" sideways space to spare in the charger. If you have any of the iPhone Plus models (6+,7+,8+) they will fit as well. Enjoy, J
my 6+ in a lifeproof case does not fit... i have an xs max on order, do not expect it to fit either...
The pluses and max are virtually identical in size. The Apple cases add very little to the outside dimensions.
Ditto everything said above (Xs Max w/leather case), except I have a 2017 Three Touring, not a Prime. No charging issues.
When I test drove an advanced '18 my X fit just fine and seemed to charge with no problem even with a protective case.
